All I'm saying is that a grown man should not allow another grown man to purposely stomp his face without a cross word, shove, or hell at least a stare down. BTW, Saying someone should defend themselves when attacked is as american as apple pie. How is that crapping on them? Saying these guys need to get tougher on defense & have each other's back is the truth. They're a team aren't they? How is that crapping on them?
A lot of people in this thread have no idea what being tough means. Scola has hardly shown himself to be soft.
Anyone else get the feeling that kyle_r is greenhippos? They both call people 12 year old girls and sweetheart when people disagree with them, and keep making references to people wearing dresses and being little internet girls. Almost 300 posts in less than a month, lol.
You mean the guy that set off one of the ugliest brawls in sports history and had to sit out a whole season of his prime because he couldn't control his temper? This is the guy that Scola (and the youngsters on our team?) should be modeling their behavior after?
I have question. Never really thought about it till now. But If you was on the court and someone threw the ball at your nads trying to save procession, how would you react? You know what, accident, its kewl, blow it off. But it happens a second time and do you blow it off again? Im just wondering. Doesnt really both me on either case. You know who else it doesnt bother. Scola. He was actually wondering more why he didnt get the foul call on the move that brought him to the ground. So here is my thoughts. If Scola doesnt care about it anymore, as he says the game is over, why the fook are you all still caring about it?
I dont see him (if the same incident happened to him) getting in Loves face either.... Would he have thrown a ball.....again?
This: There is a difference of being stupid and being tough. You are getting paid millions of dollars to play competitive. Not fight. Not go all out Hawaiian and scrap brah. Scola got stepped on. **** happens. Ask Love, he got hit in the balls not once but twice by the SAME person. **** happens. There both competitive. And guess what, neither of them are holding grudges (according to them at least).
Ok, after all the tree huggers have said their peace, let me give mine. Regardless of what the government or anyone else says, there is always a time when you have to defend yourself. I'm 41 and I've never been known as someone who sought to fight or retaliate. I have a 20,9,6,and 2yr and I teach my kids to defend themselves, but don't seek trouble. During my basketball days in from ymca to highschool to college, there was always times when I or my teammates had to stand up. Playing at LaMarque, we always played the so called "tough" schools. In other words, we played the inner city schools like yates, sterling, madison, jones, worthing etc. My coach used to always say, defend yourself, defend your teammates. When you walk into some of those gyms, they count on intimidation to win. It was hard foul for hard foul. If they gave a hard foul, you best believe they would get one a little later. As I moved on to swt, my college coach was somewhat similar. Against pepperdine, this guy kept sliding under me on my jumpers. He was boxing me out before I got down. I told the ref a couple of times, but he was slick with it. Told coach, he said on follow through, bring your elbow down on his collerbone.. I did it, got a foul call, but the player didn't return for the rest of the 2nd half. My coach didn't say a word. My coach also coached in the nba. What am I trying to say? There is a active league wide perception that the rockets are soft. This perception lasted all through the yao ming era until they got artest? Why? Because accross the league, the rockets best players were considered soft. Yao Ming, whether by culture or nature was the kind of player who took it. }uys would push him down, step over him, and he wouldn't do anything. When your best players are deemed soft, your team is percieved as soft. Hakeem was mello in his later yrs, but his rep was, don't stir him up. Thorpe and maxwell also helped uphold this thought. Even non fighter guys like duncan took to task hard fouls. These rocket teams with kevin martin, chase buddinger, luis scola will just take it and smile about it.
Man watching that video of that little b**** fisher pisses me off. Scola is not soft by any means but in the heat of the moment how do you not go after him? That could have been a major brawl right there.
Wish you wouldn't have brought politics into this, cuz otherwise I agree with your point. Physical intimidation is part of the game. If you have a reputation of toughness, people are gonna think twice when they get in the paint. When Deke was playing, people knew that if you go inside, you'd be liable to get a giant elbow coming down on you. Same thing goes for the Knicks and Pistons of the 90s or the Celtics of the 80s. If you wanted to compete against them, you couldn't be afraid to take some punishment going inside. I miss that kind of basketball, because the competition was intense and it separated out who had heart vs. who didn't. As McHale said: “That would have been taken care of internally.” By “internally,” he confirmed he meant on the floor. http://blog.chron.com/ultimaterocke...-suspended-for-driving-foot-into-scolas-face/ Also, it's one thing to think about Ron Artest when he got into Kobe's face after his dirty play vs. Ron Artest going up into the stands. He did the right thing telling Kobe that swinging his elbow into his neck wasn't going to be costless, even though the refs weren't going to make the call. That's different from going up and beating up some knuckleheads in the stands.
WTF are you talking about? That was a playoff series we had reason even being competitive in that we damn near won. I don't remember what game that was, but certainly Scola showing any sort of physical reaction ends that run really quick. He thinks before he reacts. Remember the whole Miami Heat melodrama from way back in the late 90s with the Knicks? <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/slGmTABZtZ8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Fighting never solves anything. And you know what pisses people off more than starting a shouting match? Being quite and walking away. Works every time.
this is why i HATE kobe and the lakers... it also brought up alot of good feelings... there really is nothing like a heated playoff series... especially when its your hometeam... i know were mediocre and i have been on the trade scola/martin fence to regroup... but when you have a heated/fantastic series even if you lose in the first round, its worth it...
I wasn't going to post in this one star thread. But, I think with the suspension of Love for two games, we can now see that Scola handled everything perfectly. Being old enough to vividly remember seeing Rudy T almost lose his life when someone overreacted when tempers flared during a game, I am glad Scola had enough common sense to not make matters worse. I was also glad to see Love apologize for his actions and agree that the two game suspension was warranted. Maybe some fans and the OP can learn something from all this. Sad if they can't.
