I really wanna watch this. Anything for a superhero or super power movie. But will wait till it's on DVD. That way if I get a little sick I can stop it and continue later. Watched a few minutes of Cloverfield and got really sick. For those who rated in the vicinity of 8/10.. got any pics, brah?
Hated the camerawork. Who actually ENJOYS this type of camera style? Sure, it's "original" but utterly pointless. No one can actually say, "wow, that made the movie better".
It's done for a sense of realism and a different point of view. For example, in this one Spoiler when Andrew learns to manipulate the camera with his powers there are times in the movie as he starts to spiral downward where he is watching the camera/staring into it. This would have been rather awkward in a traditional shooting style. (i.e., why is he suddenly staring at the camera???) Or how in the moments that are 'public', you are supposed to get a sense of the confusion/destruction as it's captured by various points of view, ie security footage, news footage, home video, etc. etc. Also would have been awkward to switch to that if the rest of the film had been done in a different style. Now, whether or not it makes a movie better or if it is enjoyable is obviously up to the viewer. But it is done with a purpose in mind.
There are some small things about these more "realistic" type movies that for me will kill an entire movie. Spoiler When the black kid moves the ladies car, the parking lot is hardly full, he moves her car like 20 feet away to an area that's not even surrounded by cars, she comes out and looks in both directions and behind her, several times. Her car was 20 feet away and not blocked by another car or ANYTHING that would keep her from noticing it when she was looking around frantically. I know I know, it's something small and insignificant, but it just puts me in the wrong mindset for the rest of the movie and I can't enjoy it.
Hmm, this is Max's first big gig. He's clever/talented in a what-the-****-is-going-on type of way. I would imagine this film is one of his more "tame" works. What I will say about this (before i see it), is it appears, based on the comments and reviews, that it's a film that's worth seeing as much as the visual effects as the story -- meaning Hollywood is focusing on QUALITY to make me want to see films in theaters. Kudos.
Yeah, like I said its up to the viewer but I can understand. Just pointing out it wasn't 'pointless' in that sense. Personally I haven't found many movies of this type I liked, though I thought this was pretty good at times of making it a little more natural. Still have to jump through a lot of hoops to find reasons to have the camera present. Biggest downside to that style IMO.
Saw it last night. I loved it. I almost want to give it a 10/10, but it just feels so wrong to be uncritical of a major budget mass-marketed movie! Sadly enough, if this were an indie offering with limited fx and a few more flaws, I might have instantly declared it "BEST MOVIE EVARRR!". Anyway, this is the story that X-Men wished it could it tell. I was skeptical going into it because of the teenaged protagonists and the chance that the movie was targeted and written for that demographic; thankfully, that wasn't the case. To boot, this movie probably had the most realistic teenager behavior and dialogue I've ever seen in a movie, minus the bit of high school bullying... which wasn't bad enough to take me out of it. As for shaky-cam, I find that I'm in the minority of people who are immune to the technique. I usually don't even notice it! Well, at least, after the element is introduced and I'm already engaged in the viewing. It didn't bother me in this movie or Trollhunter or District 9... though, I haven't seen Blair Witch or Cloverfield, which seems to be the movies everyone cites when they complain of shaky-cam fatigue. Maybe it helps that I have no bit of motion-sickness; though, I found this movie's to be pretty steady -- I don't even recall a typical running-with-camera scene in there. FINAL WORD: I watched this movie with a variety of comic book and/or indie film geek friends, and we all enjoyed it to varying degrees. If the premise of the movie is at all intriguing to you, GO SEE IT.
A 10 would be Dark Knight. I can't have any complaints. 9 would be one of the best I've ever seen (there are a lot of very good movies). As for you "hating people" who don't give perfect scores; that sounds like a personal defect.
I thought so too . . it was not as bad as some I have seen but 30 minutes into it .. . . my eyes started aching a bit. Headache behind the eyes at the hour mark. This is with extended 1 minute eye closing moments. This style is an automatic point deduction for me. Spoiler Someone pointed out some obvious predictable things which took away a point i.e. the black kid dying The turn in the story was obvious and abrupt. I don't know alot of teenagers so . . this maybe typical dude went from nothing . .to top of the world . . to psycho in mere days the last change happening within hours seem like. I made the wrong assumption . . i can admit . . .that the guy was a smart nerd . . .when he was just an outcast. his money making scheme was as stupid as can be for someone with Telekinesis. No real explaination of the source was a bit off putting Was it still there? Just covered up? Rocket River
Honestly I am serious. I hated it. Don't get me wrong, some scenes were hilarious, but for the most part it's garbage. It has absolutely no story, the acting is trash, and it really doesn't have an ending. Essentially its crap. I don't understand how people are being fed this crap and turning around and saying its good. Its sad really...
Alot of times. .. people use the word GOOD when what they really mean is DIFFERENT since it is not the same ole same. . . then it has to be better right? Rocket River I'm not saying that is what folx are doing here but just trying to help
I'm not; it was a good movie. I'd like to see the list of movies Pizza has seen recently that he considers "good". At worst it was a popcorn flick; there's no way any rational person would consider it to be "awful". You want awful? Watch "the last airbender".
