Ok, I get very angry when people say that the reason the Rockets won the championship twice in a row is because Michael Jordan was playing baseball. It's a fact that the Bulls got beat by Shaq and the Magic in the 94-95 season. So the Rocket's rings are not "tainted" and frankly I'm getting angry when people keep saying "well if Jordan was playing blah blah blah." I know this has been talked about many times on ClutchFans and that's why I put it in Debate and Discussion. I just thought I would let some people know that didn't know already just in case they got into a debate (fist fight) over this.
Well in theory one can argue that the Mavepricks only won last year because Jordan was retired. Same goes for all the Shaq/Kobe teams....and Detroit...and the Spurs...
I'm glad this was brought up again, how can anyone with a straight face say Russell should have 11 rings? I mean Jordan wasn't even born before most their wins anyway. Be a man Stern, put those asterisks where they belong.
Why do you care so much? It's just a sporting event. Go look at droxford's thread in the hangout if you want to see about real life things that actually matter.
People forget the Bulls were crap across the front line the year they lost to the Magic. Grant had left and Rodman wasn't there yet. Longley, Perdue, Foster, Wennington, Krystkowiak, Kukoc, Buechler? Please. Those Bulls were whiter up front than the Washington Generals and had about the same level of skill. Besides, we owned them in the regular season when Grant was there. Dream and Otis vs. Grant and scrubs was a bigger mismatch than Jordan and Pippen vs. Max and Horry.
You're right; it was because George Karl and Paul Westphal couldn't coach, Pippen was a basketcase and Checketts was making way too much money to care.
Also, Nelson was a meanie. A Warriors team with Mullin, Hardaway, Webber and young Sprewell would have been obscene.
no matter your reason, this is the wrong forum. everybody here hates that stigma as much as you (do).
Here's a bit of trivia I enjoy breaking out when this argument comes up... In 1995 what player scored the highest single game point total in the regular season? In 1995 what player scored the highest single game point total in the playoffs?
Nah, i'm enjoying this thread here -- it won't have 30,000 knuckleheads chiming in with a dumb opinion.
You're right, 110th, but it beats the hell out of the usual basso/Hightop crap fest. Yes, the Rockets get a raw deal when that subject is brought up. No one wants to be reminded that Jordan actually played and the Bulls were beaten during one of those championship years. They say that Jordan was "out of shape" and similar bull****, ignoring that he scored 55 points during a game against the Knicks, his 4th game back during the regular season. That the Bulls were 13-3 after Jordan came back to finish the season. That he averaged 32 points per game against Charlotte, and 31 per game against Orlando, being beaten by (gasp!) a better team. Sure, Jordan was a shell of his former great self, and I have a bridge over Lady Bird Lake in Austin that I'll sell, cheap.
Here's the Bulls regular season record against every team during 91, 92, and 93 seasons (1st 3-peat). Guess who they struggled the most against? <style type="text/css"> table.tableizer-table {border: 1px solid #CCC; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;} .tableizer-table td {padding: 4px; margin: 3px; border: 1px solid #ccc;} .tableizer-table th {background-color: #B90D0D; color: #FFF; font-weight: bold;} </style> <table class="tableizer-table"> <tr style="background-color: #B90D0D; color: #FFF; font-weight: bold;"><th>Opponent</th><th>G</th><th>W</th><th>L</th><th>CHI PTS</th><th>OPP PTS</th><th>NET</th></tr> <tr><td>Houston</td><td>6</td><td>1</td><td>5</td><td>96.2</td><td>103.8</td><td>-7.7</td></tr> <tr><td>San Antonio</td><td>6</td><td>1</td><td>5</td><td>102.7</td><td>105.2</td><td>-2.5</td></tr> <tr><td>LA Lakers</td><td>6</td><td>2</td><td>4</td><td>99.7</td><td>102.0</td><td>-2.3</td></tr> <tr><td>New York</td><td>12</td><td>9</td><td>3</td><td>97.1</td><td>94.3</td><td>2.8</td></tr> <tr><td>Portland</td><td>6</td><td>4</td><td>2</td><td>108.7</td><td>104.8</td><td>3.8</td></tr> <tr><td>Detroit</td><td>14</td><td>10</td><td>4</td><td>100.2</td><td>95.6</td><td>4.6</td></tr> <tr><td>Golden State</td><td>6</td><td>4</td><td>2</td><td>111.0</td><td>105.8</td><td>5.2</td></tr> <tr><td>Philadelphia</td><td>12</td><td>6</td><td>6</td><td>105.3</td><td>100.0</td><td>5.3</td></tr> <tr><td>Phoenix</td><td>6</td><td>3</td><td>3</td><td>120.2</td><td>114.7</td><td>5.5</td></tr> <tr><td>Milwaukee</td><td>15</td><td>11</td><td>4</td><td>107.2</td><td>100.7</td><td>6.5</td></tr> <tr><td>Indiana</td><td>14</td><td>12</td><td>2</td><td>109.9</td><td>103.2</td><td>6.8</td></tr> <tr><td>Cleveland</td><td>15</td><td>10</td><td>5</td><td>107.4</td><td>100.5</td><td>6.9</td></tr> <tr><td>Utah</td><td>6</td><td>5</td><td>1</td><td>103.5</td><td>95.8</td><td>7.7</td></tr> <tr><td>Atlanta</td><td>14</td><td>11</td><td>3</td><td>110.9</td><td>100.6</td><td>10.3</td></tr> <tr><td>Orlando</td><td>10</td><td>8</td><td>2</td><td>110.5</td><td>99.8</td><td>10.7</td></tr> <tr><td>Denver</td><td>6</td><td>5</td><td>1</td><td>119.0</td><td>108.2</td><td>10.8</td></tr> <tr><td>Seattle</td><td>6</td><td>6</td><td>0</td><td>107.7</td><td>96.7</td><td>11.0</td></tr> <tr><td>Boston</td><td>12</td><td>8</td><td>4</td><td>111.9</td><td>100.8</td><td>11.1</td></tr> <tr><td>Charlotte</td><td>14</td><td>12</td><td>2</td><td>112.0</td><td>100.5</td><td>11.5</td></tr> <tr><td>Washington</td><td>12</td><td>11</td><td>1</td><td>111.4</td><td>99.4</td><td>12.0</td></tr> <tr><td>Miami</td><td>12</td><td>11</td><td>1</td><td>109.0</td><td>96.2</td><td>12.8</td></tr> <tr><td>New Jersey</td><td>12</td><td>11</td><td>1</td><td>109.9</td><td>94.7</td><td>15.2</td></tr> <tr><td>Minnesota</td><td>6</td><td>6</td><td>0</td><td>112.7</td><td>97.2</td><td>15.5</td></tr> <tr><td>LA Clippers</td><td>6</td><td>6</td><td>0</td><td>111.8</td><td>94.3</td><td>17.5</td></tr> <tr><td>Sacramento</td><td>6</td><td>6</td><td>0</td><td>118.0</td><td>98.0</td><td>20.0</td></tr> <tr><td>Dallas</td><td>6</td><td>6</td><td>0</td><td>112.2</td><td>90.8</td><td>21.3</td></tr></table>
