Lin clearly is the better basketball player and his salary is significantly less than Flynn's. Is there a reason why we kept Flynn, Or was this simply a mistake in our roster management? TIA

Because Lin showed us nothing at all during the short training camp, and Flynn has more upside so they went with upside

Flynn's contract amount helps us in acquiring more expensive players.

    $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

    That's why.

    In Stern terminology: "Basketball reasons."

LOTS of them, several million in fact.

Because if not Flynn, there would be anybody eating popcorns on the bench during the games. see video below (at 58 second):

Can someone explain what was that?

We probably figured Flynn had more trade value.

But is the Lin the superstar we're missing?

Jonny Flynn has had 12 20+ point games in his career. Lin just got his first one.

    Just saying

We already have Jeremy Lin on the roster. His name here is Goran Dragic.

Flynn had a guaranteed contract - Lin didnt...
Flynn had a greater 'perceived value' = trade potential

Are people really worried about keeping a player like Lin? Lin has one good game and all of the sudden the sky is falling. We all know the Rockets have much bigger needs than freaking Jeremy Lin to make them better.

It's one game against the NETS. Remember when Budinger scored over 30 against the TWOLVES last year

Approximately the same value as players, but Flynn has a bigger expiring contract, and more trade value because of it.

Everybody wanted Lin over Flynn. Flynn was a better asset because of his expiring.

It would be beneficial to both Lin and the Rockets that Lin is not here.
Here he would have played 3rd PG. Which means no minutes and no help for the Rockets.

In NYK he legitimately has a chance to start in absence of Baron Davis and play big minutes. It does hurt our Knick pick though... Lol.

The motive is the money. No way in hell les just gives waives him and pays him the rest in one transaction. Expirings are overrated just look at what we got for Jeffries and battier. Les is one cheap ass owner period, and I don't understand why some fans in here care so much about cap space like Les is a big spender.

They wanted to keep Lin. Remember how it took so long to sign Dalembert? The Rockets were trying to trade some other players (probably including Flynn) so they could make room for Lin and sign Dalembert.

They weren't able to do it, and they were running out of time. So, they had to cut Lin to sign Dalembert. It wouldn't have been possible for them to cut Flynn, keep Lin, and also sign Dalembert. And they chose not to lose on acquiring a starting C just so they could keep their preferred choice for a 3rd-string PG.
