What do you hate about your brothers and/or sisters?

I don't have a relationship with my brother and i hate it. furthermore i'm screwed up in the head because it seems i could never live up to expectations of him, he's my big brother, you guys who have one know how it is. especially when you have a cool one.

 

How many years older?
Mine is 4 years older and we don't feel the need to compete or be cooler than the other one.

PS I'm the cool and slightly better educated one.

The younger one's smarter, more successful in a field I actually majored in, more ethical, healthier more socially and emotionally well balanced than I am; the only thing I don't like is that in order for him to accomplish all of that he really had to shut himself off from the rest of us, so he probably doesn't notice when I'm trying to emotionally connect or take a genuine interest in his life and work.

The older one's a frigging mess. Took him eleven years to get a bachelor's degree in Communications, he blew a Corps scholarship right out of high school and another ROTC scholarship and flunked out of his second-to-last school - he showed Dad a suicide note he'd written right before he told him he'd flunked the second semester there in a row - we didn't know it at the time but he'd decided to take up theatre acting on the side. He'd been dating some girl for about nine years or so and married her when she told him she was pregnant; our parents were from Cameroon and Haiti, but this grandkid's basically Scandinavian.

A year later, he had a decent full time job as a COBRA administrator in Dallas, but our Dad died and he decided he wanted to be an actor again: so he got into UT's MFA program for Acting and move his wife and two kids down to Austin. I asked him when he was first thinking about it if he actually had the money to do it, he said yes but I found out years later he had convinced my younger brother to buy their house down there in his name, pay the mortgage and then he and his wife would just pay him back.

He got my younger brother and I to sign him as the executor for our father's estate (our mother was ruled ineligible to participate); he had us paying our share for property taxes and movers on our Dad's house, but once it was sold, he didn't tell us; cheated on and separated from his wife, cut off his cell phone for a year and just pocketed the money. Since he was the executor, the estate attorney said she couldn't disclose anything to my younger brother or I due to attorney client privilege. Even though he'd dropped out of the MFA program, he was getting a lot of Austin theatre gigs and still trying to make a go of that and I guess glorified community theatre with a bunch of college kids doesn't pay the rent. In any case his kidneys went bad right around that time, so now he lives with Mom and is on dialysis. But he wants to go to med school, so, whatever.

 

Does her name rhyme with Jan Flyce or are there just more vampire writers out there than I thought?

That they all make more money than me. Just kidding. I love my brothers and sisters. All 8 of them. I even go on vacation with them sometimes. We're so tight that my wife has even taken the kids to Cancun with my brother's family without me.

I guess the worst part about my sister is that she took took the son we had together away from me. She even fought my efforts for joint custody.

 

I am disappointed in my sister for getting pregnant twice by a loser.

 

Same here. I always felt like people took that sibling relationship for granted. And couldn't imagine how so many grew distant as adults - unless you have one who seriously uses or mistreats you. But then again it's not really something I will ever know anything about.
