    Good work, durv.

However, are these "power rankings" or where the Knicks are projected to finish record-wise among the 30 teams in the league at the end of the season? For example, the Knicks can be the, say, 19th best team in the league in terms of performance level, but may be projected to finish significantly better or worse than this record-wise if their remaining schedule is much tougher or much easier than that of their competitors (especially those in the East). They also might well finish with, say, the 12th worse record in the league, but still make the top 8 in the East.

Hollinger has a "playoff odds" simulation that tries to project where teams will finish and their probability of making the playoffs while accounting for future schedules (I think).

Anyhow, I think the big question is whether the Knicks level of play will improve due to the addition of a player (like Baron Davis, or someone traded for) or decrease (due to injuries, loss of morale, etc.). They kind of looked better in close losses to CHI and BOS and Melo looks healthier. So, I still think they'll get better and at least get very close to making the playoffs in the East and am not that concerned they'll get one of the 4 or 5 worst records in the league. Given this, every loss will help make the value of the pick a little higher, whether or not the NYK makes the playoffs or not.

So a big injury to Melo or amare or even chandler....good for us or bad?

With injury do we go from getting 6-10 pick top top 5

With melo or amare injured i still think being in the top 5 worst teams is unexcetpable for the knicks. As long as they have amare or mello on the floor they'll stay out of the top 5 range, the worst that could happen for us is that they get there ***** together and make the playoffs (most likely) or win the lottery and get boosted into the top 3.

You're right it is top 5, but I believe the only way the Knicks can get the 4th or 5th pick of the draft is to be one of the 5 worst teams in the league. If they are 6th worst, they can't finish with 4 or 5.

So most likely our concern is a lottery win into the top 3.

this is correct, notice how the 4th and 5th pick columns only have odds if you finish with one of the 5 worst records.

IMO Knicks would need a significant injury to fall into the top 5.

I'd agree with your reasoning if their schedule wasn't so ridiculous for the rest of the season. Yes they have three quality players but that isn't enough when the players don't compliment each other. You have two that are great scorers and one that is a great defender but that leaves you with two huge holes in rebounding and assists. The Knicks are 20th in the league in rebounding and 24th in assists. You won't win in this league if you can't rebound and pass.

    I say keep it.

If there is a top prospect that we really want...a draft day deal of our pick+theirs+ Scola/Martin should be very enticing for those young teams.

I'd rather trade Martin to the Bucks and get their first round pick. Maybe something like Martin for Udrih/Delfino and the Bucks first round pick.

How is Baron Davis going to fix that team when Chauncey Billups couldn't

He won't fix it, but he will be a thorn in our side. A one legged Baron Davis would vastly improve that teams point guard position.

    Once more.

Trade it while GMs around the league think the Knicks pick might have value.

There, I feel better now, how about you?

If they hadn't amnestied Billups this year and let him expire this year, the knicks could have used the amnesty on amare at the end of this year.
They could have had a trio of Deron, Melo, Dwight

Knicks pick will likely be a top ten pick if they don't make the playoffs so with the 10th and 14th picks the Houston Rockets select.

Well, the Nets gave NY a tough time tonight before succumbing to Jeremy Lin's career game ....And the Bucks lost a game they were supposed to.

I'm actually kind of glad the Knicks won this game........We don't need a glacial shift .....Let the law of averages do it's thing. The Knicks are horrible as is and if they think Davis is going to be their savior, they've got another thing coming. Besides, if I was a betting man, I would throw down that one of Davis, Amare, Melo, or Chandler goes down before the end of the season.(or they combine to miss a significant # of games)

    6-9 - locked in baby

That said, also a VERY valuable trade chip at the moment......... I mean shorting the Knicks is fun, but at some point Morey's going to cover. (and lock in his profits)It's his modus operandi/nature. I expect this pick to be gone by the deadline.(see Battier ... % play)
