That surgery I think messed up 2pats athleticism its still early so I say after all star break he'll be back to normal. Hill has been a little better with his rebounding but his post moves are still horrible
Patterson has more focus. Hill is prone to making mistakes. You can cover those mistakes by playing harder which he has been the last few games that I'm pleased with.
Hill can rebound, while Patterson can't. Patterson can defend the post, while Hill can't. Both can shoot from mid range, but reraly make shot from post move. They look about the same level players for me, maybe Hill is slightly better so far this season.
I guess I've given Pat more of a free ride because he's newer to the NBA though now I am having 2nd thoughts. Maybe it's just knee jerk from the last few games but if you asked me today, I would rather keep Hill than Patterson. I've always thought Hill at PF was where he belongs but since we had no C, unfortunately he was destined to play out of position which may have actually helped his PF game but he needs to move back to the PF position. And Hill hasn't been playing ball that long so he's still relatively new to the game. He's had some mental distractions over the past year or 2 and I expect that to hopefully start settling down and I'm sure he does too. I would like to see Hill remain a Rocket.
Ppatt showed you why tonight if you watched tonights game, you understand why PPatt is more valuable than Hill. I agree that he is not comfortable in the paint right now offensively, but his shot is good from all over the court. I think he can improve his post game. Defensively, he helps the rockets cover so much ground with help defense and just being in the right spot defensively. He keeps making steps towards what he was last year. And, I still see alot of growth potential. I still can't imagine talent evaluators comparing these two guys and really giving JHill a chance against PPatt. I like Hill playing backup C, thats fine, but I'm not heartbroken if he's not here next year b/c someone pays him. I thought his contract was reasonable for a big, so I was slightly surprised it wasn't picked up. But, it is what it is...he certainly woke up AFTER the contract was passed over. Food to think about.
I am holding out hope for Jordan, but I have pretty low expectations. Patrick though, has TOO much talent and intelligence to not be an above average starter in this league, imo.
I would like to keep them both. Let them both play major minutes for cheap. We can dump our high priced veterans who are not really playoff winning worthy anyways. If the veterans are not really a playoff winning type team? It makes more sense for it not to be Patterson vs Hill. The real battle should be Patterson and Hill Vs Scola. I have seen enough to think Hill and Patterson could be good enough to develop into great role players for this team While Scola has little value on a team that is not playoff ready for a big run.
Yeah its pretty sad we didn't pick up hill's option. Hill looks good right now but i think patterson wins by far in the long run.
Indeed. Patrick looked like he was getting into form this game. Jordan should be gone, if not dealt, after this season. Motiejunas'll get the C minutes.
These two really don't compare unless your comparing an injured PP with the current JH. I hope JH gets it together and figures out how to be consistent I would be glad to have him here if he can do that. Patterson just keeps improving every game, I think people really aren't taking into consideration that he had surgery and still isn't at 100%. I can see him getting better, tonight at the game he missed a shot in close and got the ball back and put it in very quick, he has that very quick jumping ability that seems to be rare.
Well maybe they think someone on RGV can replicate what Hill gives them. Plus, depending on the team moves we might not have a spot for him, like with Landry when PPat was drafted and Hill arrived. Its better to release him now and then pay him a couple million later on if you need him, then keep him around then his 2M salary becomes the reason you out bid on a premier FA.
Also I wanted to add not extending Jhill makes him an expiring contract, giving us a short-term "asset" we can use for trades.
I feel extremely sorry for the team that spends "a lot more than 2 million" on Jordan Hill this offseason...
PP plays better as a second year rookie than Hill did. The board prefers PP cuz he has more potential (and I agree). Hill is done.
I certainly hope the rest of the NBA start over-valuing Hill like some of you are. Expiring contract, trade bait? Win. There's no way I'd invest long term in someone who just WAKES up and plays for a contract after he isn't extended.
