"All dogs must be spayed/neutered" That's a bit ignorant. I'm sure they mean well but I guess the folks who run this place don't realize how many responsible owners do not spay or neuter their dogs for health or other reasons. That includes therapy and service dogs.
I'll check this place out next time I'm in town. Congressman Bill Archer park is like 20 acres. Fenced in small dog park, and fenced in larger dog park. Both have bone shaped ponds. Lots of grass, dog playground, covered seating. Etc.
True, but someone who owns both is probably at the dog park. I've been to the Boneyard a couple times and it's a cool place. But the Buffalo Bayou flood plain is my default dog park - my dog Mina and I walk over there least a couple of mornings per week. The best thing about the BBFP is that it is wide open space - most dog parks are fenced in and there really isn't enough room to throw a ball or frisbee a long distance or for the dog to really run flat out (unless they just run in circles). If you have a high-energy dog and live in Montrose, Midtown or the Heights, this place is a godsend. But I'm really worried that the city is going to screw it up with all the plans to develop Buffalo Bayou. The Webster park used to be just a big open lot, and it was pretty awesome. Your dog could easily tire itself out running the length of it a few times. Now it's a tiny area that's completely useless for exercise - it's basically a place for your dog to socialize and take a dump. I suppose that's better than nothing (and maybe the best to hope for given the value of the property - even the city isn't going to dedicate 50 square yards to a dog) but it's not what anyone with a working breed dog needs. Mina is a ACD/shepherd mix, and she could care less about the other dogs - she's ready to chase a ball or catch a frisbee when we're at the park. So I worry that the "new" Buffalo Bayou is going to clutter all that open space and leave the dog owners with another undersized pen.
the op has been a "cat guy" his whole life, not that your statement made a whole lot of sense to begin with.
I suppose it didn't, with that extremely misplaced "true" opener. Replace that true with a "no", and my intent is a little clearer
They always have some good food trucks there: Pi Pizza Truck, Bernie's Burger Bus, Houston Street Eats. Good stuff, folks.
Love that place. I took the Boxer there last weekend, and if you're a single guy (I'm married) a Boxer SERIOUSLY gets the girls attention. Mine being kind of a mini even worked out better. We usually go there two or three times a month, but when it's time for them to run we walk them to Memorial Park or drive them to the dog park behind the Tower by the Galleria. BTW- Where is Congressman Bill Archer park and Buffalo Bayou flood plain? I'm always on the look out for new places to take my three dogs and let them run free.
I had a map to BBFP on page one. Just google map Buffalo Bayou Dog Park. Parking is a pain in the ass so try parking at Spotts Park and doing a nice 30 minute loopish walk with good scenery and a nice break at the the dog park in the middle.
