LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin was voted as a starter to the NBA All-Star Game on Thursday but said he doesn't plan on defending his slam dunk contest title during All-Star weekend. "As of right now I don't plan on being in it," Griffin said Thursday night. "Those dunk contests aren't my thing, I said that last year. There's a lot of guys that can put on a great show and do some good stuff." Last year Griffin won the slam dunk contest, played in the Rookie Challenge and played in the All-Star Game during a whirlwind All-Star weekend in Los Angeles. This year, Griffin, who will be a first-time starter, would like to simply enjoy the weekend and play in the All-Star Game on Sunday. "Last year was hectic and it kind of made it unenjoyable," Griffin said. "So this year, we'll see what will happen, but I will try to tone it down a bit and get a break instead of being so busy." Griffin's teammate, Clippers center DeAndre Jordan, could take Griffin's place in the slam dunk contest, but Jordan said he has not been contacted by the league yet. "He's got some stuff that people definitely want to see," Griffin said of Jordan. If he was asked to participate in the slam dunk contest, Jordan said he would do it on one condition. "If I didn't have to go against Blake," he said. http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/nba/...lake-griffin-says-enter-nba-slam-dunk-contest Kind of glad if he doesn't particiapte, the other contestants wouldn't have a chance, last year you already knew who'd win, no matter if Ibaka jumped from the ft line or other guys put on HUGE dunks. My lineup would look like this: Ibaka McGee Shumpert, Selby or Leslie Westbrook Left out Bron cause he's scared to participate.
I'd like to see DeRozan again, and less of these 7 footers. Paul George too after that dunk a few nights ago.
Ibaka or McGee(one of them deserves it after last year imo) DeRozan Westbrook Shumpert, Selby or Leslie(all above 40inch vert, athletic as hell, plus they're the annual rookies)
Ibaka was too bland. When he did the free-throw line dunk, he was about 6 inches off the ground. Alonzo Gee's had a string of nice in-game dunks recently. I'd like to see him have a go in this year's contest. I'd like to see DeMar DeRozan, Paul George, Alonzo Gee, and I know Andre Iguodala and Josh Smith still have enough hops to do another one. 7-footers' dunks in the contest are pretty boring without gimmicks. But I guess it's part of the show.
The bigger name will most likely win since the dunk contest is pretty much more popularity than skill (much like the Allstar voting). Unless, of course, there's a midget... judges love to make midgets champions.
Defintely. He should have won it last year. I don't even care too much about who else is in it, just as long as DeRozan returns to claim what is rightfully his. Also, no 7 footers.

Good. Hopefully the better dunker like DeRozan doesn't get robbed again. There was no way Blake deserved to be in the Finals last year.
They need to open it back up again. The guys that are not superstars sometimes are hungry to make a name. Get more of those guys in there. They should make it 8 participants...then eliminate 4...then let the final two do one more final dunk.
Was looking forward to Blake jumping over the front of a low-rider, with Carlos Santana playing in the background wearing a sombrero.....Damn it....
Same here, at least 6 would be good. 8 is too much imo, dunks would get repetitive and it would take too long. McGee DeRozan Westbrook George LeBron Shumpert, Leslie or Selby That would be an entertaining night.
Lebron will do a tomahawk dunk and the judges will give him a 50 calling it the greatest tomahawk ever.
