This is not a good sign and let's hope Lowry learns from this. It looks like the 'adjustments' the coach needed to make was simply frustration with his own lack of playing time. He's probably the one crying that he should be out there, 'it's my time to play' something along those lines in earlier quotes. Do you guys think he just wanted to help his team so badly and since he was not allowed to put the team on his shoulders he got angry, which is not so bad. Or he was simply pulling a Wafer from his bag because McHale benched him, thus his ego was hurt? I did not see the game but from what I read Dragic was again doing a good job defensively on Rubio so based on that I would say his ego was hurt. He is already back to working hard according to the article but he needs to prove his maturity by responding in a better way next time he is benched. I'm not trying to make something out of nothing but to me though it is different from AB, Lowry is the leader and been having a great couple of months (AB just got MIP) and with the recent slump and McHale's willingness to bench people who do not perform maybe got to him. I think we will not see this anymore from Lowry, at least I hope not, and maybe it was just a frustration because he knows he can do better. This doesn't negate the fact that he talked to the media when he should've kept it in the house and rather just keep his mouth shut. Let's hope he learns from this, matures and responds to his slump and McHale's style in a positive way.
Kyle is the over emotional type, we've seen that from the get go. But his emotion is also one of his biggest strengths, it's a double edged sword. He's gonna have to get that in check, but he can't succeed without it. The raw star level talent isn't really there, he has to play with that fire. Hopefully he can find a balance, or else all that promise we've seen recently will be nothing more than a flukey stretch and he'll be back in great backup territory again. At this time last year most of us thought he was nothing more than a great backup. I'm convinced now he's more than that, but with less than a years worth of great play we still have to face the possibility he simply isn't quite as good as he's played. I think he's tired and its affecting his game, which effects his mood and it all snowballs. He need time off, mentally and physically. This condensed season is tough to play through.
Ricky Rubio is very hard to stay in front of. When you weigh so little you can accelerate and decelerate quicker. I know the trend in the NBA is to bulk up but there is something to say for staying thin and keeping your quicks. Kevin Martin has that same build. As far as matchups, Dragic did a much better job against Rubio the first game than Kyle. The NBA is about matchups and adjustments. If on a given night, a guy has player x's number, it is better to change the matchups. Of course the other way of thinking is to let player x take his lumps and learn from it, perhaps over the course of the game he'll adjust.
15 points 8 assists 6 rebounds 2 steals Is one hell of a backup... Kyle Lowry is 2 assists and 4 rebounds away from averaging a triple double, ala Oscar Robertson. We might need to cut him a little slack...
Obviously he IS NOT a backup however this latest trend is extremely disappointing. Not only is his shot off but it seems his defense is starting to lack as well. The one thing that i was thoroughly enjoying about this season was the all-star level play from Lowry but it doesn't seem that he can hold it up.
No, it's Lowry being Lowry. He's emotionally immature and needs to get himself straight before something spills out onto the court (or he zings a ball at the ref). When times were tough for Brooks he cracked and got shipped out. Let's hope Kyle chooses a different path.
Larry and Magic were also emotionally immature. Kevin Garnett is emotionally immature... Charles, Dream and Michael were emotionally immature. Competitive players go nuts every now and again and Lowry is light years away from being counter productive to team chemistry. In fact, our team looks like absolute horse manure when his leadership is on the bench. Kyle's entire life has been tough, and he has never cracked. Menacing, tenacious emotion will get him out of his mini slump, and he will prove himself again, and again, and again. He is a winner, chicken dinner.
Wrong title ... should be Lowry's immaturity Unfortunately he has fixated on the belief that RA is the "great coach over there who gives players a lot of confidence." I don't think he likes McHale, nor is he willing to adjust to McHale. Boy, is this AB 2.0? Lowry should know HOU FO do not hesitate to trade away anyone who's becoming a problem. This happens when we trade away the stabilizers of the team in Shane and Chuck (not that I don't agree with the reasoning) but it puts a lot of pressure on Kyle who may not be ready yet.
I'm not worried about lowry, but those numbers are deceptive. Those numbers are trending downward big time. Not to mention his shooting has gone in the tank. I think its a combo of things including fatiue both mentally and physically.
He has never cracked, eh? Unless you're Lowry or his momma I don't see how you know this. By the way, calling out your coaches isn't creating or sustaining great team chemistry. Recall Scola was just complaining that people need to shut up in practice and stop yapping. We also have 3 '09 draft picks irritated that they didn't receive contract extensions and Lee who couldn't come to terms on an extension either. If you believe what some other people are saying everyone is concerened with being traded and two guys may still har or some hard feelings over a betoed trade. To me these things add up to mean the team chemistry is on shaky ground, so Lowry needs to keep his head.
Only if Dragic takes his starting spot could that happen. I think Lowry will be fine, he just needs to get used to McHale - not sure why he seems to prefer Adelman so much, he gets a lot more trust with McHale. DD
Meh. Can't side with Klow here. Mchale has been pretty consistent in that if he thinks you have played well your ___ will be watching the 4t qtr. He did it with Scola and Martin as well...
I've noticed a rift between Lowry and McHale. Lowry has also been making his frustrations a lot more visible on the court this season. Yelling at teammates, throwing his arms in the air and a lot of "WTF were you thinking" body language is very common in Rockets games now. Especially when they're losing. It's easy to be the attaboy leader when things are good, but a true leader rallies his team when the team his going down. Sure there are great leaders that get on his teammates, but don't forget to not break your teammate's mentality. This is Lowry's first season as THE man. Let him learn, too. But he his headed the wrong direction.
