Is it me or do the rockets fans need to stop this wishful obsession with aquiring dwight howard and start being realistic. In the past decade are biggest fa trade aquisition has been an already aging all star in tracy mcgrady. Our city is never going to pull in the big names because our city doesnt offer the excitement or atmosphere of say a new york, la, or miami. We need to set our goals realistically and start targeting players such as Josh Smith. Hes a solid power forward with great leaping ability, great post presence, excellent on the boards, and fantastic defender, everything we are lacking at this point. Luis scola as much as i love the heart and work ethic lacks in all those categories. I say we throw kevin martin and scola in a deal with atlanta for say marvin williams and josh smith. we get the small forward we need as well as a great post player who can help dalembert on the help side defense.

If this was your first thread, it wasn't a quality one.

I fantasize about many things. Many of them can be found in the hangout. None include Dwight Howard... Only Morris, he has a twin.

Then in the offseason try to target a big man such as Javale Mcgee who is young and has raw talent. The sky is the limit with this guy and with mchale the king of the post working with this guy he can bring talents out that have yet to be developed. We also would be getting a guy that can provide exstended rest time for dalembert and possibly be a center of the future for us. These are both realistic and yet viable aquisitions that could still put our team into the top contenders in the league. We arent going to get the big name players thats never been our strong suit and thats not what this team has ever been.

    great response

love how you commented how terrible the post was but yet provided no reasoning for your dislike for it.

So please explain instead of knocking someone trying to have an intelligent conversation.

bottom line is both the players i have named bring us that defensive intesity that this team has lacked since the clutch city days. Defense wins championships. Ask boston, ask dallas, as the lakers.

Now that Lowry is getting consistently outplayed by his backup and we're back out of the playoffs, there really is no reason for Dwight to want to come here.

there was really never a reason for him to come here anyways. we dont have celebrities that come to the game. the nba has turned into one huge soap opera

I agree. Not with the trading for Josh Smith thing, but we should really quit dreaming about getting Dwight Howard, Deron Williams, and any other big name star that seems to be available. Our star will have to come thru the draft as it did years ago with Hakeem!

great post and very true. I have always prided our team on the fact that we dont need to big names to compete and thats why teams like the lakers and other big name teams have respect for us. Cause we give them a fight and have no quit in our game.

Lol an aging Tracy McGrady? He was just turning 25 years old lol. Just b/c things didn't turn out like we'd hoped, doesn't mean you should hate on what was a HUGE trade. He was a top 5 player when we acquired him.

That being said, we should forget about getting DH12 b/c superstar player mentality has changed since 2005. The landscape of the NBA has changed, now they see the excitement in forming these superteams in great cities. I highly doubt a superteam is ever formed here. And unfortunately...there is no Hakeem Olajuwon out there for us to lean on now or in the future.

This isn't an intellegent conversation and won't be one.

Your post was neither original, breaking news nor worthy of a new thread. Many people have this opinion, but they don't make new threads, or if they do, they tend to be bad posters. This is an opinion that could of fit in numerous other threads already discussing the same topics.

The Rockets, or any team for that matter, that is not a contender does not have a realistic shot of becoming one without a huge amount of luck. That is not reason to not try. For to not try, is the only true way to trully have no shot. Inevitably some team, despite how low the odds, will win the Howard sweepstakes.

Furthermore, moving our Shooting Guard for Josh Smith does absolutely nothing for us except create a momentary shakeup and take on more salary.

What difference will it make if we get jsmoove? We decline on offense (you propose we get rid of martin and scola who are our best scorers) and improve on defense. That team would still be mediocre at best. Lowry/lee/williams/jsmoove/dally is great defense no offense. I think we do need to trade scola and if we get smith, fine. I would never include kmart though

what we lack in offense we make up for in defense. the old saying defense creates offense. And in the bigger picture of things we use these players as a possible trade for a bigger fish in the offseason.
