Jordan Hill's basketball IQ is too low to be more than a 2nd big off of the bench. Patterson is a potential starter. Comparing their stats from this season in which Patterson had no training camp and came off of injury is useless. Patterson is just coming around from the injury. He was undoubtedly out of shape and probably just now has his legs under him.
47th among PFs is very good? (key phrase bolded) I didn't even know there are 47 power forwards in the league who get enough minutes to be listed in such a ranking...
This coaching staff is getting to him, I think. I mean McHale is one of the greatest PFs of all time. If Hill doesn't listen to him, he won't listen to anybody.
His performance prior to the option, he was terrible. He would be lucky to even have a contract of any sort in the NBA. So you are saying Hill knows he could play well enough to earn a decent contract, but didn't because he didn't want his option picked up? Sounds like a guy playing for a contract to me.
I am just saying the timing is bizzare, and he had a tweet that said something about him doing for himself in the new year. Maybe he was happy to have his option declined, I would not put it past an agent and player to force that issue....would you? DD
Hill was absolutely terrible before his option was not picked up. I honestly doubt he was happy his option was declined because he was playing nowhere near decent enough to get a good contract. So unless Hill deliberately chose not to try in order to get his option declined, and began trying only after. Not only is that a huge risk (because he would be assuming that if he tries, he plays well enough that teams will recognize him), but that means he is a complete and utter contract player. If that is indeed the case, then I could probably surmise that once Hill gets a contract he'll stop development. And only show flashes of potential once he needs to a new contract again.
It could also be that the new role for him is finally one he is comfortable with, McHale was praising him the most in training camp, maybe after getting benched he sulked and came back stronger? Either way, good for him and us. DD
A lot of the guys listed above Patterson on that rebounding ranking he's talking about actually have very few minutes. I count 15 players with under 20 minutes per game
I like hill and patterson but hill has improved and patterson has been good on O but his rebounding is bad but he plays good D
My two cents Patterson - Higher basketball IQ, better teammate currently. Everything we like about him falls under his basketball IQ Hill - MUCH higher potential. I have been all about this guy's potential since he came into the league. I give him 2 more years before I quit on him. If Hill can learn Team Defense along the way... BEAST
