The clear one from Verizon has been working great for me. I have a Skinomi laying around if anyone wants it (make an offer). I don't want it as I don't feel comfortable putting my newborn nexus near water lol
just wanted to pass along this sweet case I found through Droid-Life http://www.droid-life.com/2012/01/22/a-galaxy-nexus-case-you-may-want-to-consider-plus-a-buy-2-get-1-free-deal/ of course I got the Red One http://www.amazon.com/Red-Androidified-Samsung-Wireless-Packaging/dp/B006MKCUE6/ref=sr_1_10?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1327641534&sr=1-10 it was $14+ shipped, should be getting it tomorrow EDIT: got my case in today, surprised it was only 1 piece, its basically a hard jelly case Spoiler
For those of you that did root this phone, let me show you something that might potentially save you a ton of time. First of all, if you're an average user with common sense who just wanted to root their phone, you'll probably know to ALWAYS make a back-up and/or keep a working ROM on your SD card in case your phone won't boot but you can access recovery. If you're into dangerous stuff like me (Don't play around with a 700 dollar phone) , or if you accidentally deleted your SD card files one day and for some reason your phone won't boot this will help you push a file to your internal SD card while in clockwork mod recovery First of all, you will need to have ADB setup on your computer , and the proper drivers (If anyone ever encounters anything bad on their Nexus or if you don't know how to setup ADB, please PM me ) I did something bad to my phone today, and I quickly remembered that I didn't have a single back up as I was playing around formatting stuff the other day, so my first instinct was to boot into recovery, and mount USB storage. I then realize USB storage will NOT mount as this phone does not have an external SD card , and uses MTP -_____- Anyways, after digging around, I discovered that the phone has a link from /data/media that points to /sdcard. Running "adb remount /sdcard" results in errors for some odd reason I was able to recover my phone without resorting to flashing the stock google images and having to re-root Here is what I did. In CWM, go to mounts and storage, go ahead and mount data Open your command prompt (if you're using windows) type the following adb devices (to make sure it's being recognized) adb shell ls-1 (you will then see your folders) exit adb devices cd c:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools (Remember that the ROM you want to put back on your phone should first be placed in the platform tools folder on your computer so you can flash to the phone) adb push exactfilenameofROM.zip /data/media (wait 60 seconds) adb reboot recovery and you're done! you should see the ROM on your sd card when selecting "install from sd card" , and you can then flash it to save the day Sorry for the long post, but this totally saved my ass tonight lol
AOKP > CM9 (So Far) So glad I was able to get rid of those dumb dotted menu buttons and got myself a permanent one like in the old pre 4.0 days
When I turn my wifi on at home or at a hotspot, does it automatically supersede the Mobile or do I need to turn my mobile data off manually to be sure I'm not burning through my paltry 2 gigs?
When you're connected to a Wi-fi network, you're using that access points bandwidth. Not your mobile data. It's not necessary to turn off mobile data. You will however consume data when receiving MMS. The easiest way to see this is by looking at your signal bars, when data transfer is occurring you will see tiny little black arrows which pretty much stand for upload and download over your Wi-Fi icon . If you're consuming mobile data you will see those same arrows inside the signal bar icons. Hope that helps.
So, my replacement phone that I was given by Sprint (HTC Hero) has started acting up. When I'm on my browser, and sometimes when I'm in other random apps (texting, for instance), it will just start bringing up windows as if I'm clicking. It will randomly select text and click and highlight, it randomly asks to save pictures that it clicks on, etc. It's like my phone is possessed. This isn't happening all the time, but it's getting more and more frequent. I tried taking my case off, rebooting the phone, cleaning the phone off, downloading a new browser, etc. Nothing seems to work. The original phone I had, had the speakers go out about a month and a half ago. When I took it in to get looked at, the kid didn't try to fix it, just told me I was eligible for an upgrade under a special promotion they were running (I'm due up April 1st). I was all excited because I want a new phone. I picked out a Galaxy S2, a case, and some screen protectors. Now, I had told the kid my name and number about three times at this point. So, I'm sitting there, as he has my purchase in hand, going through the motions of my upgrade, pumped, but feeling guilty at spending 230 bucks on myself at Christmas time. Whatever. So, he goes to cash me out and asks me my name and number again. I tell him, and he gets this blank look on his face. He's like, "Uhhh...actually it's someone else on your plan that was eligible for the upgrade." So, I'm pissed, and ask him what I have to do. I ended up buying the replacement Hero for 40 bucks. I called and complained to Sprint until they refunded my 40 bucks. Now, this new phone is messed up. What should I do? I wanted to wait for either the Galaxy Nexus or the Note/Journal (although, I think I was leaning towards the S2 over the Nexus, to be honest. Should I go in and demand an upgrade and get an S2? Should I ask for them to fix the replacement phone, or send me a new replacement? Should I wait it out for the other phones? Should I leave Sprint altogether and look into getting the Note on AT&T (which would be data capped and cost me probably 100 extra bucks a month)? Any advice would be appreciated.
Sorry to hear about your situation. It sounds like the capacitive touchscreen on the Hero went bad or something. I wouldn't go for the replacement, the Hero is a really out dated device. Is 4G connectivity of any interest to you? If it's not at all, just go with the S2. If it is, I'm not too sure if I would stay with Sprint but that's just my personal opinion, you have to factor in price, coverage, and of course tiered data plans. The S2 is a Wi-max phone and Sprint is ready to step into the LTE game, so while the S2 may be a great phone, in a few months, you might be wanting to go with an LTE device, or perhaps the GS3 is out by then. I know buying phones at full retail can be quite expensive, but you could always buy an unlocked Galaxy Nexus which is pentaband (Works on Tmobile HSPA & AT&T HSPA along with voice of course) and not have to worry about contracts or anything.
Heads up for GSM galaxy nexus and nexus s users. Go to the market, google wallet is now showing up but only if you have an at&t sim card inside
This is some bull****! http://www.theverge.com/2012/2/3/27...-removed-from-googles-developer-support-pages This is NOT a Nexus anymore! (LTE model)
Well, looks like my prediction on this being Verizon's first and last Nexus is going to be true.. Sigh... Love Verizon's service, hate their corporate strategies!
Still a little upset. But looks like Google clarified itself https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!topic/android-contrib/phz3S5ZdveU
On one of the Google Developer sites, people notices today that all CDMA devices were no longer listed, and the factory images for the LTE Nexus were labeled as "archive: for reference only" People assumed that something went sour with Verizon and Google (despite the fact that all CDMA devices were removed. Even I got a bit upset for no reason) and that this device was no longer a developer phone. Turns out, Google just wanted to clean up their page, and they clarified that CDMA devices will aren't truly official because , well.. it's CDMA and there's proprietary files involved. All in all, it's still a Nexus, and we're still getting updates from Google.
