i just saw some1 writing a bad word in some other thread i was like are you serious lol, why should i get another 1
Coached up? He's almost 30 years old. He is already on the downhill side of his career. You think the old dog can still learn new tricks from coaching? This is also my question. Does Morey want him primarily because he believes Kaman can improve the team or because Kaman is an asset for something better in the future?
This is a good illustration of why FG% is not a good measurement of offensive efficiency. Specifically, even though the .486 FG% looks pretty decent, his career TS% of .526 is not very good because (1) he doesn't draw a ton of fouls (only 2.9 FTA per game vs. 9.9 FGA) for a big guy and (2) he doesn't shoot 3s. Take an extreme example on the other end of the spectrum: Kevin Martin. His career FG% is only .445. But his career TS% is .597 because Martin shoots a ton of 3s and a ton of FTs. Moreover, Kaman has a career TO% of 17%. While bigs who work inside tend to have more turnovers (crowded space), 17% is still quite horrible. Yao Ming, who is on the higher end of turnover %, had a career avg of 14.5%. Al Jefferson, who is on the extreme end of not-turning the ball over, has a 9.4% career avg (and has been at 6.8 and 7.1% in the last couple years, truly amazing numbers).
I don't know about old dogs, but a 30-year-old bear is having by far the most efficient offensive year in his career with the Rockets: http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/d/dalemsa01.html So, yes, even older guys can learn new tricks-- or at least be used in a more efficient matter than he has been by other teams.
I don't even know what the debate is. In almost every aspect, Kaman is a better player than Jordan Hill. I'm not saying Jordan won't bloom, but he has nothing on Chris. When Caveman is healthy, he can average a double double without a problem. As many posters have written, he has a decent post game too, including back to the basket. His last couple of years have not been that great though. I think he would make the Rockets a much, much better team. How many rebounds does Jordan average? 4? Chris can't do any worse. Expiring contract. Jump shot, Size. Experience. Bring him here. AND PLEASE GET RID OF THABEEETTTTT!
A lot of stat nerds throwing out numbers of why Kaman may or may not be a good fit/acquisition. Or dummies like myself who don't and won't understand all that stuff, ha.
1: Centers, as we have come to know, are the hardest to find in quality in terms of position. Obviously, if we have any hope of luring Dwight, we would have to give up a 5 in the process. I am NOT saying this deal is being made with Dwight in mind. But I am saying that with this deal, we could move a 5 in a deal for Dwight, and still have a adequate backup. 2: With 2 5's, we would have the flexibility to move one of them and not necessarily need a 5 in return. 3: One large expiring is more useful than 4 smaller expirings if one is trying to net a big contract in return.
Hate to see Patterson go if he's involved because I do I think he can/will be solid but having another 7footer plus the expiring contract is a nice get
