How does this guy even write for Gizmodo? Aftermath lmao http://gizmodo.com/5879213/i-just-banned-jesus-diaz
That's why I only use my Google email account for spam/junk emails but I never log on or hardly ever use it. I still have my main Hotmail and Yahoo email. I'm looking forward to using Bing more often. I've noticed that Google images search engine been going to the **** hole.
While I do agree that some folks have bought into Google's old 'do no evil' stuff hook line and sinker, Gizmodo is a craphole site that no one should ever mistake for actual journalism or as a source of real information. The headline for this article about Google is a perfect example of that. Well they don't put your name on it, no, but they aren't collecting this data purely for your benefit. Their primary source of income is advertising money; data is their most valuable commodity.
I use Yahoo for my e-mail, but Google for search. and hotmail is very popular too here in Mexico, a lot of people I know use more hotmail than yahoo, for e-mail.
Maybe not now but it wouldn't surprise me if they did. What is the purpose of data mining if not to market to people better? I will say perhaps they aren't selling directly but I wouldn't be surprised if they tell advertisers they can target ads better because of their ability to data mine and track users. That is only marginally better than if they sold it directly.
Well isn't Google one of the biggest advertisement companies in the world (online) ? I can't see them selling it to a third party. I just see them hoarding it for their own personal use. Then again I could be wrong.
This is nothing compared to what Zuckerberg does with your data. Anyone in this thread who is complaining about this AND is on facebook is really dumb.
*GOOGLE TECH TEAM LEAD MEETING* Hey guys, we need our to make our services more adaptive and responsive to the interests of each individual user -- we need to make our services smarter. How do we do this? Well for one, let's streamline our multiple and widely-used services and their corresponding userdata so as to better tailor the experience for each individual. *Dev teams are put onto the task! Data is consolidated, algorithms are refined and retuned, services are synchronized, etc.* Boy, this is a great step forward in our software. Our users are going to love this potentially more nuanced and polished personalized internet experience! *NEWSRELEASE* User response:
So instead of Google having data, you want Microsoft to have it? If you are really freaked out, then just use Google without a Google account. Or use Bing or Yahoo! or any other search engine (and then that company will have your data). Best way for nobody to have your data, get a feature phone with no data plan and never use the internet ever again. Good luck with that but I don't think I can.
What about the people complaining about this ON facebook? I've already seen that several times. LOL. This is really the only reason I'm still on facebook - the comedic value.
now that's irony. this is all about media and bloggers looking for hits about some conspiracy. "Oh no! Google should maintain separate databases and never merge them."
http://googlepublicpolicy.blogspot.com/2012/02/busting-myths-about-our-approach-to.html Google responds.
I am in awe at how dense people are when it comes to this stuff. They hear "blah blah Google privacy" in the news and start freaking out. All this is going to do is fine tune the way they do ads (the ads you already get on tons of websites that you visit, including this one) and make searches more customized to your history. They would be fools to mess up the machine they have created by selling your information and risking the consequences of that.
haha pwned. part of the issue with google is yes, you use those services currently but now it's aggregated by default. they can use that, sell that whatever. all the nonsense you do on the internet is on some easy to read spreadsheet somewhere being updated in real time seriously I really love this country but life here is getting lame. not only the government trying to push SOPA, PIPA, National Defense Authorization Act but corporations getting into the act. and after the re-election we probably going to invade Iran, then borrow trillions more from China to pay for the bombing and reconstruction the most trolololol thing is that people don't give a ****. do you understand how they deliver ads to you and customize searches? it's by tracking your online behavior. consider 2 points: 1) how it's USED has absolutely no bearing on the propriety of collecting that date. yes google uses it for ads. they could use it for something else. they could hand it over to Obama, w/e. again the USAGE doesn't mitigate the intrusiveness of the data they have. what do you think? google is going to say. hi we're going to collect all this aggregate data and screw you with it. they're gonna tell you, hi we're collecting all this data to serve you better smiley face and internet high five 2) with Civil Rights, it's not the best case or even the normal case which is the benchmark but worst case. when they Miranda you it's because in the 1 in 1000 case you're getting screwed. in the other 999 cases the police will act appropriately without those protections. yes, it'll probably be fine. PROBABLY. and Diehard Rocket I wish I could get awed by simple **** like you do. I'm mostly just a cynical ***. I think life would be more fun....
You must be dense yourself to think they haven't been collecting/stealing your information for their own benefit.
