Gortat puts up 17 / 11.5 per 36. Might as well trade Martin and Lowry for him. I'm glad a few others have joined in here, I had Kaman on a fantasy team in 09-10, I saw his numbers, they were great, no doubt about it. But then he got hurt, and his numbers are a fraction of what they were for those decent 3 seasons. He gives this team nothing except for the yearly "make a trade to keep the fans interested"
His numbers are a fraction of what they were, but his rates are the same. We are only asking him to play 20-24 minutes a game. With Dally and Caveman, we would be getting OUTSTANDING C production overall, and a HUGE expiring contract... (And another solid low post option to go with Luis...)
I would do Kaman for Flynn, Thabeet, Twill and Hill in a heartbeat. Thabeet and Twill are literally worthless. Flynn was good his rookie year but in reality isn't even worth a 2nd round pick. Hill has his days but you can never count on him. Kaman had some great years. Yea he got hurt but it is worth the risk. We are not going to get anything for the 09ers other than a mid 2nd-3rd round pick which is nothing.
Less than 50% for a post player who also doesn't get to the free throw line very much isn't too good. That the Clips were bottom 3 in offensive efficiency in the 3 years he was one of their goto players should also tell you something. We're seriously lacking a play who can score in the post, so maybe he's the right fit for our team. But I think he's generally been an overrated offensive player.
Career TS% Dwight Howard=.602 Pau Gasol=.578 Hakeem Olajuwon=.553 Tim Duncan=.552 Zach Randolph=.527 Chris Kaman=.526 I'm fine with that shooting efficiency... Another post option would do McHale good...
Yes, he's a little overrated offensively. Has never been extremely efficient when you factor in his turnovers. But...he is a two-way player that is a big man. He has been very good defensively and is still very good defensively. And he's been forced to play on mostly junky teams, lottery teams. So, you could make the case that his offensive efficiency has been hindered by playing on crappy teams.
Scoring efficiency can vary depending on what the teams asks of you. There are plenty of big guys that have great scoring efficiency but aren't really good scorers, they just get garbage buckets. Kaman has actual skill that could help space the floor four out shooters and open up driving lanes for guys like Dragic and Lee.
I think it's not so much that he was overrated, but rather he's not the same player he used to be. I guess he's like Brand-lite. Someone who did play at a high level but no longer do so due to injuries. I still like him a lot because whoever currently plays backup-C sucks, and that we won't actually give up anything of value. But my expectation of him would be similar to Brad Miller in terms of overall productivity.
I cannot agree that he would not be needed in Houston. Dalembert has off days and is best in 25 minutes, not 35-40 minutes a game. Splitting 48 minutes between the two could be very effective. Personally I do not care either way, as I am more curious to see how our draft picks like Patterson progress in the future, and what deals we are able to make... Kaman may make 1-2 wins difference, which is a tight WC is the difference between making and missing the playoffs...... I personally would not mind having 2 potential lottery picks, but I know that is not the Rockets motivation.
Also consider his PPP, which adds turnovers to the equation: PPP = PTS / ( FGA + 0.44*FTA + TOV ) Dwight Howard 1.00 Pau Gasol 1.01 Yao Ming 1.02 Hakeem Olajuwon 0.96 Tim Duncan 0.97 Zach Randolph 0.93 Chris Kaman 0.87 Average for Centers over last couple years: 2010-2011: 0.95 2009-2010: 0.96 2008-2009: 0.95 2007-2008: 0.93 2006-2007: 0.93 Kaman is actually way below average for centers.
