    on a side note:

would this trade signal our FO has given up hope on acquiring Deron or Dwight via trade?

moving Thabeet and Hill would be removing some valuable pieces for salary matching purposes.
Kaman wouldn't be able to get moved as part of a package by the deadline and that puts some handcuffs on Morey's ability to make a deal.

I'm glad we're in the lead for something. The last time we got any positive report from media leaks, we ended up getting Dalembert for a great deal.

    1) First of all, we are dealing from a position of strength. We don't have a glaring need for Kaman. We will go after him only if he can be had for the right price. Stern wanting an expiring, young prospect and picks is absolute garbage propaganda. You will never get that package for a $14mil oft injured and slightly above average player.

    2) The market value of Kaman is not that great. No one who wants him for the cap space would give up a quality young or a high pick for a 3 month rental. Add to the fact that Kaman's basketball stock is at an all time low and you really can't find a better buy-low candidate.

    3) Kaman's value to other teams is not as good as he would be on ours. The way that Dalembert has been phenomenal because he brings exactly what we lack in our roster, it will be the same for Kaman.

*My only caviat is that he shave his head and beard.

Because Landry signed a 1 year deal as a FA this offseason:

    1. Landry cannot be traded until March 1, 2012.

    2. Landry can only be traded if he consents to be traded and, in giving this consent, he would waive any "Bird Right" that his new team would otherwise on him.

My guess is that Landry will not give this consent. The Hornets likely wants to keep him around past this season, and is likely to re-sign him. The Rockets, on the other hand, are trying to make some cap space for big time FAs, and is unlikely to make a significant offer to him. He's better off staying in New Orleans for this season.

I believe he can be moved by himself-- and, given the size of his salary, it's not hard to construct a dea of him for, for example, Deron Williams, if needed.

Actually, it may be just the opposite. Kaman makes $14m and Howard makes $17.9m. Given the 50% salary matching rule, we should be able to flip Kaman to Orlando and trade him 1 for 1 for Howard (or for Turk or for Arenas *shudder*). Of course, we then need to make a second concurrent trade to even the talent out.

[rQUOTEr]HOUSTON - NBA sources told FOX 26 Sports the Houston Rockets have had conversations with the New Orleans Hornets in an effort to trade for center Chris Kaman.

However, league sources told FOX 26 the two sides are not close on anything, and the chances of a deal being consumated are low.

Sports Illustrated reported the Rockets have had extensive discussions with the Hornets about Kaman and appear to be in the lead to trade for him.

SI also reported, while the pieces are still being discussed, the Rockets offer has involved center Hasheem Thabeet and forward Jordan Hill and the deal could also involve forward Patrick Patterson, guard Jonny Flynn and forward Terrence Williams.

NBA sources told FOX 26 the SI report on the players involved is not accurate.

Kaman played eight years with the Los Angeles Clippers and is in his first season with the New Orleans Hornets.[/rQUOTEr]

In other words, Jeff Adrien is also being discussed. :p

Also, Rockets front office denies rumor in order to prevent players, specifically Jordan Hill, from feeling like trade assets.

So years of attaining worthless "assets" has brought us to....... Chris Kaman? Big time GM Morey is sure pulling out all the stops.

    Negative.

Kaman is mostly worthless. He does nothing for the long term for this team. I am not giving up any value for something that has none.

Rockets wanted Gibson and the Charlotte pick for Lee from Chicago. You think they are going to turn around and give him away now.

    Not happening.

If Kaman comes here its for non rotation players and maybe Hill. Anything beyond that is overpaying, which Morey doesn't do unless there is an ulterior motive (IE free up capspace to sign Nene)

I see T-WIll being the deal breaker. A piece that the Hornets want but Daryl is not so sure of giving.

Over Gordon? Good rotation player, but what good team is he assured of starting on?

Yes. The classic argument against trading for anyone except Durant, James, or Griffin.
