As i see the trade pat pat isn't going anywhere the NY pick isn't going anywhere Thabeet + hill +flynn + williams go to NO for shure but there must be an incentive to NO to do the trade 1) Minnesota 2nd or 2) marcus Morris (Morey will only trade MM to create 2 millions in cap space for the next year)
Yeah I'm afraid Morey will have to include the Minny 2nd rounder as part of this deal to offer at least some incentive to the Hornets. 2 or 3 09 busts + Minny's 2nd rounder for Kaman and possibly an end of bench player.
The incentive should be that Hill or Thabeet might pan out to something decent. Hill is young talent that has shown flashes of decent play. Otherwise, walk away if you're Houston. No way would I include anything else outside of scrubs with potential.
Eh, not so much. Kaman would be getting Hill's minutes plus some. Thabeet and TWill already get no minutes in the rotation. To get Morris minutes we'd have to move one of the following: CLee, KMart, Bud, Parsons, or (Patterson or Scola, if combined with Hill). I'm not sure any other player traded away would open up those minutes for the Morris brother.
I doubt this happens here. It's not like we are talking about the trade for an obvious superstar. I doubt Les has a boner for Kaman. Also, remember what happened with Dalembert? Bill Worrell and Drexler said many times that Les pushed for the signing of Dalembert. My guess is that Morey liked him well enough but didn't want to overpay. So, what happened? The Rockets apparently insisted on a favorable contract and was willing to delay the signing to wait for Dalembert to explore his options. Dalembert finally agreed to a contract that leaves the team with a lot of flexibility. In other words, even for players that the owner is apparently excited about, the Rockets have been quite careful in not offering too much so as to cost them significantly in the future.
Why not use Kaman's $14mil as a way to unload a contract (Scola's) as well as include those "scrubs" to clear cap space but keep Hill so our frontcourt is still deep for this playoff run?
Hill or any 2009 bust has no value, because their are now unrestricted free agents at the end of the season. Their value is only that their contracts are expiring. Karman is an expiring too But Kaman > 2009 BUST thats why we have to gives something extra
As long as no first rounder goes, I'm fine with it. Kaman stinks, but clearing out dead wood for a 7-footer that can give solid minutes isn't a bad move. Jordan Hill would fit much better as a 4 next to Okafor than a 5 next to Scola. I think this may probably send Lee over. It stinks, but I get the sense that he's becoming disgruntled and wants out. With Gordon hurt, he'd be an immediate and valuable starter over there. My guess - Kaman for: Thabeet, Hill, Lee, Chase, a 2nd rd pick, and $3M cash Hornets save $3M in salary difference and receive $3M which they will need to buy out/cut the three roster spots. They have several filler players* making less than $1M each. *I'd assume: Carldell Johnson, Trey Johnson, and Xavier Henry
Because you don't need to unload Scola. Worst comes to worst, you can amnesty him if you really need that cap room.
But if we're giving something extra, there's not much purpose to it. I'm fine with us winning as much as we can, but not if it means giving up future assets (on top of losing position in the draft).
Because NO will never do. NO want picks, young players or expirings. NO are in the rebuilding mode now
Lee may or may not be gruntled, but he's playing well and there's no sign that he's poisoning the team on or off the floor. I do not see any need to ship him our unless the team receives something of value in return (and I doubt Kaman, who may or may not be gruntled sharing minutes with Sammy D, is worth that much to the team). The issue with Lee (and Dragic, too) is whether the team wants to cash in on their value before they become free agents this summer, when the team may or may not have the ability to re-sign them.
The trade doesn't match unless we include Williams and Flynn to the Thabeet and Hill package. The trouble is that the Hornets don't appear to have 3 open spots on their roster, I think they'd need to cut two guys to do the trade. Do they still have their amnesty? Or some scrubs laying around?
Hill has some value-- he's been playing well of late. He is not consistently focused, but at least he can always rebound, and that's something.
You don't need both Williams and Flynn. Just one of them would make the salary-matching work. I believe they can always waive a couple of minimum wage guys, or send them to Houston in a (nominally) separate trade in order to clear the roster space. It's not that much of a hurdle to overcome.
New Orleans is fast becoming a haven for ex Rockets. Like the Spurs were in the 90s (Maxwell, Elie, Herrera, Horry, etc)
