His high level of skill at such a young age makes him an incredibly intriguing prospect. I kinda like the fact that he's not the athletic freak that Paul, Westbrook, Rose and Wall were coming out of college.
I’m just amazed at how efficiently he’s scoring for a rookie. Cleveland is really lucky that they landed a gem that quickly. He’s not going to have the ceiling of Lebron, but he’s already demonstrated the willingness to want the ball in the clutch moments and be able to put it in the hoop. The Clippers would have a nicer future if they had Irving, Gordon, and that upcoming late lottery pick from Minnesota, IMO.
I haven't seen the Cavs much, but his efficiency is just insane. If he keeps it up, and as the Cavs improve, you'll see his distribution skills improve, too. he strikes me as a fairly smart/cerebral player... from the little I've seen. He's not Westbrook, Rose or Wall, but is he that far off of CP3 athletically?
no, why would they get rivers? they don't need another point guard, and if rivers played sg, he would get outplayed.
Maybe not anymore, but at the time of the combine Paul had close to a 40-inch vertical and a lightning-quick first step. He doesn't have the size of the other guys mentioned, measuring under 6'0" barefoot, which hurt his stock slightly.
If the Cavs get lucky, they'll miss the playoffs and draft a solid two guard. That's all they need and they're back on track.
When's the last time a highly rated shooting guard went in the first 2 or 3 picks? If that's all they need, I suspect that they will be able to get one in the middle of the draft as shooting guards are probably the lowest priority in the draft. Come to think of it: mayo and harden come to mind as recent examples but even then it's the 3rd or 4th pick in the draft.
Eh...draft express shows he had a 38 inch max vert. But, that stuff doesn't always translate to games perfectly. Durant had a 33.5 in max vert. while Kevin Love had a 35 in max vert. I've watched CP3 a lot and he is not an elite athlete in the NBA. He has some quickness and when you mix that with his insane handles he's unstoppable but he's not in the same hemisphere as Rose or Westbrook athletically, never was.
That's kind of my thinking. Add in the fact that athleticism isn't the be all end all, we shouldn't be surprised/not surprised just because he didn't appear to be Rose/Westbrook athletic.
I disagree to an extent. It's quite rare for teenagers to have early success in the NBA without possessing significant physical advantages over their opponents, given that they rarely have advanced skillsets at such an early age. Carmelo's the last one that I can remember. What Irving's doing is special.
It's nice to see a more traditional young PG, they've all been athletic recently! I love PGs with nice ball control. It's so nice to watch. Also, Spoiler kyrie is better than durant
