No. He's not. Yates career passer rating: 80.7 Young career passer rating: 74.7 Yates also has more playoff wins than Young, so he's more of a proven winner.
It would be easy to say that , but we all know the VY issue is more complicated because it is based off a regional group of fans and deep loyalties in college football. Those "McGrady" fans keep talking about Orlando and making excuses for his failures. They aren't even from Texas. I don't know about the others, but I was watching the Oilers/Titans before Texans were created. I see the logic in wanting a hometown hero to play for the hometown team though. There was optimism based on his college achievements and his first couple of years with the Titans. He did win and he was better than David Carr. I'm not one of those in favor of him coming to the Texans though. But I'll have my horns up if I see VY
Loved the guy in college, but he just does not have the skills to make it in the NFL. Matt Schaub is way better NFL QB and even TJ Yates has looked better than VY in his short stint. The fact remains that people that were run first QBs in college never make it in the NFL. I dont think hometown has anything to do with it , VY is just not a good QB in the NFL. It is unlikely that the crowd would teach him to read defenses better or throw better. So no we dont want him in Houston. TJ Yates is better as a backup.
Why are we comparing Young to Leinart? Is Young going to come to Houston to be practice-squad/third-string QB?
I wanted him back when, and I think he would have done better here, but probably too late now. Don't know what happened to him, but he was one of the greatest college football players of all time. The championship game with USC was probably the greatest college game ever played.
Why the hell would we get rid of our rookie QB who led us on a division-clinching drive on the road, AND to our first-ever playoff victory?? I'd say that's a damn good start to an NFL career, especially when he ALREADY has a good understanding of our system. That's experience that you can't teach, not to mention the fact that he's probably coming at about the 5th of the price of Vince "Just Wins" Young. Let's not even mention the fact that VY is probably too much of a dunce-cap to even grasp the Texans offense. I really don't get the torch some of you hold for this guy. He was a fabulous college quarterback, that is completely undeniable. However, he is CLEARLY not cut out to be a big time winning quarterback at the pro level. It's ok to move on.
So you think the majority of UT/VY fans would be content to see him in a backup only role? You don't think they would be hollering for him to start the 2nd Schaub or Yates makes a mistake?
So you think the majority of UT/VY fans would be content to see him in a backup only role? You don't think they would be hollering for him to start the 2nd Schaub or Yates makes a mistake?
Did you see any UT fans hollering for VY to start in Philly?
Did you see any UT fans watching Philly games to begin with? I think the combination of the fact that Vince had already flamed out, coupled with Vick being the league's hottest QB at the time, plus the fact that nobody around here really cares for/about Philly... made it a pretty perfect storm of quietness. Plus Vince did get to start, and he pooped the bed and that pretty much ended any "start Vince" stuff before it started. Codell is right, VY here would be a headache at best and a disaster at worst.
Why? Yates is a better QB. (for the 3rd time in this thread....) Yates career passer rating: 80.7 Young career passer rating: 74.7 Yates also has more playoff wins than Young, so he's more of a proven winner.
I actually watched a bunch of Philly games since they were on tv so much. Desean jackson kind of had a role in that too. Vick/team was sucking it up the first half of of year and the once the pressure was off they did a little better. VY might not be get another shot in the NFL, but two pro bowls and roy.I think he did OK for himself.
I forgot to mention that Yates has also guided his team to a division title, which is something that Young has never done. Higher career passer rating, more playoff wins, more division titles. Yates just wins.
