http://blog.chron.com/ultimaterocke...lves-use-42-point-third-to-roll-past-rockets/ This is not good, players are questioning his coaching openly in the media now? Uh oh...... ----------------------------------------------- " But Rockets guard Kyle Lowry said there was more missing than that. With the coach he fought to keep after last season down the hall, Lowry said the Rockets failed to adjust to the Minnesota offense, making it clear he was referring to strategy. “They made some shots tonight,” said Lowry, who did not play at all in the fourth quarter. “We got to make adjustments in game. We just got to make adjustments. We got to do something different. A guy gets it going, we have to figure out something to stop him from going. Team. Scheme. You’re not going to stop anybody one-on-one in the NBA. You have to do something different. “I think we could have done a few things differently. Once (Beasley) got it going … it was kind of late to try to do something different. Once he got it going early, we should have done a few different things to stop him.” Courtney Lee offered the same critique. “We have to make adjustments,” Lee said. “When we had guys going they made adjustments and kind of slowed us down. We got to do the same to them.” ---------------------------------------------------- That is not good when players start questioning the coaches lack of adjustments, which pretty much confirms what a lot of us have been saying....play harder is not an answer sometimes you need to coach. DD
Maybe, but saying there were no adjustments is pretty damned alarming....even Clyde Drexler was calling for a double team. DD
I'm going to have to watch the second half of the game again tomorrow. It did seem like the team was floundering out there, waiting for direction. McHale may have had a good reason to handle things the way he did, or not handle them, but I admit to being very frustrated watching that second half play out. The team has been playing so well that falling apart that way was a surprise. I can't see a trend here. Perhaps it just wasn't our night, or McHale's. You would need a few games in a row like this to really get worried, in my opinion.
Then make the adjustments. What good does it do though to be talking about it in the media AFTER the fact? Coulda, shoulda, woulda I guess.
THANK YOU !!! I mean he seems to be more of the Phil Jackson let them figure it out mold....he waits way too long to call timeouts and make adjustments IMO. DD
Agreed, but normally those type of adjustments come from the staff, not the head coach. Also agreed with McHale on the fact that you gotta make a better job at the 1on1 D. I.e, we've seen Lee offering Beasley his left side... Firstly do better your basic job, then we talk about adjustments. But yeah, I take those words like something related with past games too (Parker comes to my mind), a little bit a wakeup call, but it is a matter of the whole coaching staff. Not only McHale.
McHale is the HEAD COACH....do you think Popovich would have made adjustments? Rick Adelman would have..... It can not be the assistants, it all falls to the Head coach that is why they score the long dollar. DD
All comes back to Morey though. Morey has the players and coach or he doesnt. Whats his plan? Cheetos and videogames and making the occasional move or having his plan eventually take form? Cause..... Two years of planning a failed Gasol trade is not a plan.
A head coach can't be at everything, he has normally a lot of things to look during a game, that's why he need assistants. In his years in Houston Adelman talked very often about "what a good adjustment Turner has done at the halftime"... Assistants should suggest adjustments if they think the head coach is missing something, that's their job during a game. McHale is responsable, but it's on the whole coaching staff.
Rick Adelman never adjusted to the diminished state of Aaron Brooks all last season. He also took a long time to make the adjustment of benching Jordan Hill. EVERY coach makes decisions that can be second guessed.
I will agree with that, but the difference is that not every coach has his players saying something about it in the media. DD
1. What other "player" are you talking about? 2. Lowry's comments were rather mild and I doubt there is any beef between him and McHale anywhere other than in your mind. There are always multiple things a team could that may or may not work-- teams have to take their best educated guesses and live with the results. The Rockets didn't double Beasley tonight, but they did have 3 different defenders on him-- Budinger, Parsons and Lee. Maybe next time they try something different, which also may or may not work. Lowry seems to be simply stating this fact and thinking about what could have been done after a tough loss. Kevin Martin also said that the team got outmanned by a bunch of talented boys tonight, and I doubt he has beef with the rest of the team over their manhood. 3. As for as coaching tactics go: As I said, it's often an educated guess-- you make your most reasonable move and see how it plays out. Do people really believe that, between McHale and Sampson (who was the lead assistant on a very tough defensive team the last couple years), in addition to the other members of the staff, they know less about defensive tactics than DD?
Not about me CH, though you constantly try to make it so....it is about Lowry and Lee openly questioning McHale in the media. Take "ME" out of it.....the players are questioning the coaches, and it is only 20 or so games in...not good, not good at all. DD
