here's the obligatory Bill Hicks on Smokers/Nonsmokers rant.. caution NSFW language.. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/dnTfex_JeqU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I enjoyed the first one. I still like it. I enjoy smoking a cigarette. I don't enjoy needing an inhaler to get through a soccer game. I don't enjoy the worry that my kids will pick it up. I never really smoked around them but they knew. I hate the smell. Most of my friends have quit long ago and I find my self being the only one to go outside when out at a bar. I really don't like the thought of a shortened life, especially having had both of my children born after I turned 30. I want to be there as long as possible. I really hope I'm done with it for good.
But that's not pointless. It's to help him forget he's spent significant time in Alabama. We're lucky he hasn't drank himself to death!
My pops stopped smoking about a year ago.said he didn't feel an urge to pick it up again after he stopped; didn't use any patches or medicine. Just willpower
Nothing wrong with that if it doesn't have the better of you. It did me so I couldn't make that trade.
My friend quit for 3 weeks over Christmas but she is back at it again, she said the cavings were too much
I'm an idiot. I only smoke at night, and on average have 2-3 cigarettes a day. The thought of waking up and having a smoke repulses me, but at night it always sounds good. The problem is I've been doing this for around 12 years. I need to just quit once and for all.
The average bad habit, maybe. But there is arguably no substance on the planet more addictive than nicotine and no habit more difficult to break than smoking. The ex-smoker that was home free after three weeks is a rare creature indeed.
That's kind of what I was doing. I'd really only have one in the a.m. hours if I had a bad start to the day. Otherwise, I wouldn't have one until 2 or 3 pm. I'd been doing this for most of the last decade. I haven't been a pack-a-day type since I was in college in the late 90's. Still, quitting has not been easy even though it was just 3 or 4 a day on average.
Lukkys is a good post You've made it this far which is hell, keep going. Otherwise you will just have to go through this next time you quit. Concentrate on how nice it is being free of those things. It's been around 5-6 years for me and I won't start back up Allen carrs easy way to quit is a good book but I think it's aimed more towards smokers about to quit verse those that already have. So I don't think it will help you.
I just recently quit smoking. I am 25 and had smoked 1/2 pack a day for about 4 years. The cravings are still there, but I just think about the benefits of not smoking and within 1 minute the cravings are gone. I think that is the most important thing. When you feel the craving...do somethng else to get you mind off of it. It will go away. Also, exercising will get rid of the stress build-up that smoking used to quell.
So much wrong with many posts in this thread. "Cravings will never go away" etc. I smoked 1 pack a day for about 8 years. I Stopped 4 or so years ago after several fails with gum. No cravings anymore at all. Nicotine leaves the bodily very quickly, it's like 99% out with in a few weeks or something. What screws people is the terrible thinking habits they develop about smoking. If you want to stop read The Easy Way to Stop Smoking by Alan Carr and be done with it. Seriously, not doubt saved my life. this thread from a few months ago has a lot of good advice: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=208019
My wife does this. Smoke 2 maybe 3 a day, sometimes none at all depending on what she is doing. I'll never understand people who can. You'll make the decision in your own time to stop.
