3-5 mill. on a backup? T.J.'s proven he can win you a few in spot duty, and we have more pressing needs for the off-season.
When I saw the thread, I thought VY could be an interesting backup ... then he said he planned on starting this year and wanted it to be in Houston. Uh... what?
I was one of the select few that believed this guy would be a bust. I have no ties to hate UT so it was more out of purely seeing this guy play in College and figuring he really couldn't adapt. He was a stud in College but in my opinion it was because he didn't really run any play other than, you guys run around and I will just do what I can.
So people think Houston would not have booed him if he played badly? Let's be real here...there's a lot more Texans fans here than VY fans. He's not going to get a pass for being a hometown kid, especially since anything less than a star wouldn't be acceptable. I find it funny that he's talking about being a fan and picturing himself out there as a Texan. The team he grew up with is in Tenn, not here. If he really wants to play here, then he'll take a 3rd string QB spot. I'm not sure he's willing to do that. He'd coming in looking to take the starting spot, and if he's not given the chance, he's going to pout and ask to be released. I see him as more of a distraction than help.
VY was alive when the Oilers were still in Houston. You realize when the Oilers left , there was no Texans team for awhile, and people still watch the "Oilers". He might not be a good as an NFL QB and people hate him here on Clutchfans, but I don't doubt he loves the city of Houston.
The cost would be too great. Just keep Yates and let him continute to develop. He is just as mobile and his arm is just as good.
Texans already have 2 good running backs. Our offense needs an accurate passer that's limits turnovers more than a scrambling QB.
i think he said he'll be playing here or starting elsewhere, meaning he doesn't have to start here. At least that's how i understood it. The "or dallas" comment isn't going to help though. If you want to go home, then you go home. He's just looking for that UT support, rather than trying to live out a dream.
He is thinking we would bring him here to start? LOL, I love VY but I doubt he has the mental capacity to satisfy Kubiak to promote him over Yates. Would like to see him as a Texan, but unless he will take minimum salary, I doubt it!
I would say Clutchfans "hate" him no more than you "hate" McGrady. Simply put, there was a LARGE flock of "VOFs" that trashed the Texans for taking him and became "Fake Titan" fans because of him - not coincidentally dropping the Titan lovefest when he was cut. The more dedicated NFL fans here that rightly called him out for being a crummy QB were pretty annoyed at the "all he does is win" wave and spent several years trying to point out is failings only to be met with a wall of denial. Reggie Bush is a similar story for me. I was INCENSED at the amount of flak and ridicule the Texans were subject to when they passed him up. I had been saying months before the draft that he was a scatback trying to make it in a smashback era, and it took well over a year before the media started to let go of their self-imposed hype. I don't hate Bush...but he's definitely the guy that brings it all back. I think it's the same here with Vince or McGrady. Folks don't hate him....but seeing chatter about either one instantly raises the blood pressure. To the topic, it sounded to me like he was saying he'd be a #2 in Houston or Dallas or look for a starting job elsewhere (good luck with that). I'd almost be tempted since the boot offense would be perfect for him....but his 60 Rating and INT ratio are nothing short of nightmarish.
he said "no disrespect to matt schaub" sounds like he thinks he would beat him out. My problem with Schaub is he is injury prone. VY isn't exactly an iron man.
I actually think pLaying for the home team would motivate him and make him become better. I'll take him as a backup to Big Schuab
I know he was alive, which is why i said he grew up with the team in Tenn (former Oilers) and not the current Texans. I don't doubt he loves it here, but does that mean he loves the Texans? Can you really love a team that you wanted to beat so much as part of another team? He may have been a Texans fan from 02 until he got drafted, but do those 4 years trump a childhood of following the Oilers and then playing for them? I'm not sure it does.
