You can ride his jock as hard as you want.... but the coaching staff is there to help young players. If he were the hardest of workers, he wouldn't go through various shooting slumps, in out of rotation and we wouldn't have so many threads about him. He would be our Lowry 0.5 or Scola, very consistent with only one or two bad games.
Yep. If he were a hard worker he would be ahead of Parsons easily with his shooting talent and scoring talent when he wants to take it to the hoop.
DD also seems to get confused with the fact that just because we don't support Parsons, that makes us not a Rockets fan. Silly reasoning. I support good, competent players who don't run so hot and cold and actually provide something other than one dimension. Budinger, in essence, is a specialist. Which is fine for where he was picked and what he was traded for, but undeserving of those who think he should play a significant role. He simply does not have the skill set to warrant such responsibility.
Shooting comes and goes, especially for Kyle. But, nevertheless, his performance has been consistently positive, save maybe a few games, because he has a multi-dimensional impact on the game. I bet you ask the coaches and players on the team, and they'll say the same thing. Can't just go by the stats (funny that I should be the one telling you this).
Just wondering, what splits are you talking about? His stats seem the most consistent of any Rocket to me.
Never said his shooting is very consistent...... I meant his feel for the game, his intangibles are consistent. His production dropped off immensely these 3 games but I will give him the benefit of doubt. He produced in 16 games fairly consistent. As I said CBud had 3 good games, 2 decent ones..... and 5 to 6 horrible ones....in the others he made cameos.
Budinger is a neutral defensive player, not bad. He is not at all a defensive liability as long as he doesn't defends quick guards one on one. On offense he spreads the floor, and when he's attacking to go with that he is a great player. Every single metric you find, defensibly, offensively or otherwise has consistently shown this for all 3 years in the league. He's a good player. When he has the attacking like he has recently he has potential to be a major player on a championship team. But even passive chase is a rotation player. I'm sick of the bud hate around here, especially the thoroughly unwarrented rep he has on defense.
Bud on the starting unit together with KM and LS make for a weak defensive team. Reference the 1st game we played against OKC and LAC. What was the headline? Rockets team was listless and clueless. Even when we subbed DAL in early. Placing CP and DAL on the 1st unit led to a much better defensive effort vs. OKC (2nd game). Starting from that game, our defensive ploys started to take hold. Bud is a good player, esp. on offense which we badly need most nights. However, we should not ask him to guard the other team's best offensive player. That's not within his abilities. Initially we thought we would try Marcus Morris ' defense on the 3s. But no more, because we found CP could play good defense. Finding players to fit needed roles is the way to go for the good of the whole team. We should not pit player vs. player. Even McHale said that. Bud must improve not because he's competing for a spot but so he can be a better player for the team's benefit.
Those saying bud is inconsistent: He's a spark shooter off the bench, shooters will always be inconsistent! Bud is good at what he does, which is score in bunches off the bench, if you wanna hate on him for things that aren't necessarily his responsability then you just don't know basketball very well. Take Parsons for example, he is not a very good scorer and his shots been awful lately, but what he does is get steals, rebounds, and big time hustle plays. Nobody is mad at him when he doesn't score more than 5 points. Everyone has a job to do, and it looks like bud, as well as the rest of the players, know exactly what their job is right now.
I don't agree here. Good shooters are always shooting well..... most of the time. Bud's shot is wildly inconsistent. He can make it up by driving more, and taking part in the offense. You don't know what Parsons can become when he is ready.... Guy was a good option on offense, a decent shooter in college. Nobody is mad because he is still rebounding close to 6 rebounds, steal the ball and assists.......as a rookie You have more expectations towards the third year player....... Think of Parsons as the third year guy and Bud as the rookie, everyone would bash Parsons instead of Bud!
But this is not the same team as last year. Chuck Hayes was the only reason we where able to start Martin, Bud, and Scola at the same time. Dalembert is good but he and Hayes are completely different types of players. He's not going to be able to be that active on both end of the court for 30+ mins. Defense is not the only issue with playing both of them, look at the stats for this season. Kmart and Budinger Kmart and Parsons
The rotation is working well right now. Budinger is an ideal guy off the bench because scoring is in deficit in that line-up. On the flip-side, Lee and Patterson are good defenders that can make up for some of Bud's defensive shortcomings. Doesn't have to be an either/or proposition. Budinger's making a great contribution to this team off the bench, and I hope it stays that way.
I still wouldn't mind trading him, the guy just relies to much on his jump shot. He's just like Aaron Brooks, in that his level of play is determined by his shooting. I think it would be best to trade him and bring in Marcus Morris, a guy who can be a more consistant scorer and a guy who can bring other things to the table if his jump shot isn't going in.
I wouldn't bash parsons if he was a 3rd year guy, he does exactly what we need for our starting 5. We have Martin, Scola, and Lowry to score... Parsons is a good defender and a hustler, which is exactly what we lacked with bud in the starting lineup. Bud is basically the Kmart of the 2nd group, he provides scoring off the bench that we lacked when he was out of the rotation. And as a shooter I can tell you, it's very tough to find a shooter that is always consistent! Even Ray Allen and Reggie Miller had times they were very inconsistant.
Lowry's shooting comes and goes but his impact is always felt in the game. If his shot isnt' falling he attacks the basket more, he rebs harder, his D becomes more intense. If you look at splits Parsons has like the most horrible shooting of the entire team, but since just like Lowry he contributes in so many areas he's always an asset when he's on the floor. If C-bud played like that he would never have lost his starting job, he's actually one of the more consistent shooters in the team.
Bud has been inconsistent through his entire young career. He had a nice litte stretch at the end of last season though. But please don't even bring up players like Allen and Miller, clutch players, when talking about Bud. They showed passion and progress in their first couple years, Bud needs to stay motivated.
There is actually no bashing, just contructive criticism, Parsons has been great with the first unit, his D in particular as well as rebounding has helped, it would be even better if he could shoot a little bit and hopefully that will come in time, but I like him a lot, a better Battier. As for Bud, if he is going to be the 2nd units go to shooter, then McHale needs to stop playing Kevin Martin with him, you are wasting CBud at that point, he is not a Parsons player, he is more like Martin, with better defense, rebounding, and usually outside of this year better shooting.
