We need to dump Scola and Martin. Create cap room. Improve our draft position. If we can get dron....do it.
rookiefy all the posters that propose we get rid of valued players such as scola and martin for useless cap space and overrated non top 5 picks.
The following 10 games will be crucial, if we are still around 5/6 position in the West, try to trade Scola and or Martin to make us better so at least we can make some noise in the playoffs. If not, then trade Scola + Martin for picks or expiring contracts to create cap space. No way we trade any picks for a Stoudamire or whoever!
Morey is trying his best to acquire Dwight and Deron. If he can't do that and Pau is available for Scola and Martin or Scola and a point guard, he'll probably make that trade.
Picking up another center - a real center - such as Chris Kaman. New Orleans wants to trade him. He can block shots and has some crafty post moves as well as an outside jumper. I'd pick him over Jordan Hill as a back up center. I'd even give away Kevin Martin, Hill, Thabeet, T-Will and some pick to get Kaman. I'd even take back Karl Landry if New Orleans wants to include 2Pat in the deal.
^ I would be so happy oif we could get Landry back... He's the fourth quarter scorer we have been lacking.
If we remain in contention for the division title, we have to look at trading for a star player. If Dallas/Memphis get it together and we fall behind them, then I think we trade Scola/Martin for cap space.
Don't forget how top heavy this draft is. a top 5 pick from last year is basically a top 10 pick from this year in terms of perceived value.
If we keep this up and are in the upper part of the playoff race: we should do Nothing, Absolutely,Nothing
Unless we can get a superstar. This is because if we somehow make the playoffs and one of our players shine, that is a lot of good "asset" trade value  See Tyson CHandler. He didn't deserve that contract but his performance in the playoffs got it for him. If one of our young guys step up in the playoffs, we can get a great player out of it.
I still think we should try and move Scola and want to keep NY's 1st rd pick, but what do you guys think about adding Wilson Chandler and Chris Kaman to the roster? and what would it take to get them? Denver just gave Nene, Afflalo, Gallinari contract extensions and Kaman was just put on the trade block.
Trade for P.Gasol. Keep Lowry and Dalembert. I'd really like Amare or Melo if either were to become available, but who knows.
2.1 What to do at the trade deadline??? Make a trade.... -But who or what is the question- What do the Rockets have that is of value on the trade Market- -09 Expiring Contracts -Thabeet(5.2), Flynn(3.4), Jordan Hill (2.8), TWill(2.3) + RFA Courtney Lee (2.2) & UFA Dragic (2.1) -2011 Draft picks - Marcus Morris, Parsons, Donatas M. -Quality Young/Cheep Rotation players - Budinger, Patterson -Quality Vets/Boderline All-Stars(Win Now players) - Scola, Martin, Dalembert -Franchise Player- Kyle Lowry -Quality Draft Picks - 2012 Knicks 1st Round Pick, 2014 First Round Pick, (remember Rockets cannot trade their 2013 first round pick) What do the Rockets Want/Need- -Superstar- -Backup Center -Possible Young Upgrade at the SF Consensus- IMO- UNLESS Dwight Howard can be made available, the Rockets really should only look to move the 09 Draft picks (Nearly 14 Million in expirings) for valuable player that will not hamper the salary cap going forward. Moving quality players, prospects, and draft picks should only be to bring in a star. Realistic options- Chris Kaman- IMO Kaman makes a ton of sense given that he does not cripple the salary cap going forward and gives you a ton of depth at the big positions. Also would help the Rockets playoff hopes this season. Doesnt really scream future prospect, but if the Rockets really are serious about making a playoff run this year, Kaman would be a great addition. Robin Lopez- Also have high interest in Robin Lopez, who the Suns might interested in shopping. Will have to pay to keep him around for future years, but theres no reason to think that he cannot hold trade value going into the next 5 years on a reasonable contract. Al Jefferson- Similar situation as Kaman here. Not sure how he'd fit into the future, but as the team is shaped up here and now, he'd be a great fit. Has one year left after this one on his deal. Big Al could be serious trade bait next season as an expiring contract who can make you better next year. Point being, he has value, and a big but attractive contract after this year. Nicholas Batum- There is a good chance that Portland looks to move either him or Wallace this trade deadline. Batum is due a nice big payday this summer and Portland simply cannot afford him. If Houston thinks they can secure him for the future he could be an upgrade for the future at the SF position. Is he a superstar, absolutely not, but he gives the Rockets a nice versatile player who doesn't need the ball in his hands to be effective. If Morey can get him without breaking the bank in the future, he's a damn good player. Only problem with trading assets for Batum is there is a good chance a team with cap space throws ridiculous money at Batum this offseason, and Houston will be forced to match or watch him walk for nothing. Tough gamble here.
Keep the core younger guys and make some trades and try to rebuild through the draft. We have three picks first rounders along with the T'Wolves second round pick. Need to rebuild this team, we do not have the team to win the championship this is a deep draft need to be able to take as many opportunities as we can. We play this right might be the next Thunder!
