He could be a bit better, but overall you are right, he is not a starting caliber PF, heck we only have one of those on the roster now in Scola. PPat is not one, Jhill is not one, and neither is Morris.....so far.......but hopefully either Morris or PPat can develop. JHill can be effective in spurts, but he is no center that is for certain. DD
Don't know why everyone is so down on Hill this year. All we asked from him last year was some defense and rebounding and he is definitely excelling in that department. He's still very young, he can improve his offense later on.
He is excelling at defense? Where are you getting that from? Clyde Drexler's scouting report? Hill, right now, is probably better on offense than defense. And that's not saying much.
Just what my eyes tell me. And the fact that he has career lows in every single offensive category and career highs in every single defensive category. How many big men off the bench play better defense than he does (he's not even a real center)? Probably like 10, and that's a huge improvement over past years. He's a legit backup big (defensively), that's all I'm saying. If we would have said that last year it would have been a hilarious notion. Yes, he's not exactly fluid on either end but he actually hustles this year and makes good plays on defense.
He's rebounded pretty well this year. I'll give him credit for that. He's also an adequate post defender if he's not just physically out-matched. But Hill is not a good help defender, and he's very slow to see plays develop. Whatever athleticism he has is more than offset by the sluggishness of his brain in regards to team defense. That's why my eyes tell me, anyway.
We have to remember he's a backup 4 playing the backup 5. Here's his competition among western conf contenders: Brian Cook Josh McRoberts Ian Mahinmi Hamed Haddadi Tiago Splitter Nazr Mohammed Kurt Thomas Derrick Favors Chris Andersen He's above average, even his terrible offense is above average.
Hey, we're talking BACKUP center. We really only need 15 minutes a game out of him. I don't think he's bad for that role, though I'd jump on Kaman.
Jordan figured out the best way to deal with his career, suck a little bit, become unrestricted than turn it on and be the guy teams covet. Very sneaky of him. DD
McHales great coaching being reflected on Hill's play. Jordan still has bonehead moments, but he is starting to show some consistency.
There ya go, now that would be awesome if teams actually wanted one of our 09ers to have a look. Too bad there are not rights attached to them...... DD
I am a fan of McHale. I think he's done a great job and Bud and Hill are playing better than last year.
Jordan is good for a Kelvin Cato contract-esque stat line once every game or once every 5-10 game stretch, but then he sucks the rest of the time. tease.
