Some thoughts on bud

Situationally, and depending upon who he has to guard, his lateral quickness is not the best at that position, he gives ground and then closes when they pick up the dribble to shoot, whereas Parsons has plus quickness and stays nose to nose....

Lee's per so far this season, 14.85.

Budinger's per, 11.43.

Lee is a more effective player even on offense than Bud.

 

Where are those numbers from?

basketball-reference.com says Bud's PER is 13.3 and Lee's is 13.9.

PER is a made up metric from a basketball writer, it would be like you or me sitting down and writing a formula, there is no actual value there as an answer to any argument about whom is a better player.

I don't believe PER to be the end all metric that others believe it to be.

You were putting a lot of value on it just a couple of months ago when you used it to defend Budinger on the defensive end of the court.

And nobody is saying PER to be the end all metric stat, but it's a useful stat just like all others. You can't accept some stats and reject others. That's not how statistics work.

To add to that, basic boxscore stats say little to nothing about a player. You are using that to advocate Chase's superior offense whiles rejecting advance stats that would say otherwise.

But even if we compare basic stats, by no means are Bud's numbers superior in anyway.

 

I'll take Lee over Chase any day.

It wasn't Lee getting beat out by a rookie and getting DNPs.

I was one of the biggest Bud supporter when he came in as a rookie. His lack of passion and consistency is evident, are we supposed to cheer for that?

And because I called you out for cherry picking stats you're saying it's because I hate Budinger?

What's more bizarre is how often you take cheap shots at Lowry's game and then brush it off by saying "I'm one of Lowry's biggest fans" or ending it with a .

Don't go around calling fans out for "wanting players to fail" when:
A. That's a load of crap
B. You do the exact same thing

 

Don't hate him. Just prefer Parsons and Lee, who are outplaying him.

Also, just dissappointed he hasn't improved after all the promise he showed as a rook. He has the tools, just not the mantality.

EDIT: Meant to write "mentality." But it does seem like Bud lacks manhood at times.

 

Cheer for a Rocket player to miss? That is such a bizarre statement, I can only figure that it is coming from someone who knows what it is like to cheer for a Rocket player to miss.

I'm not on this bbs or the chat to prove my personal opinion correct, like you are. I can only assume that your statement above was made because you know what it like to cheer for someone to fail to prove you are right.

Bud is a scorer/shooter whose numbers suggest he's below average in that regard. We shouldn't let a couple games against the Wizards or Knicks fool us. Look at the entire pool.

There is no question at all that Lee or Parsons is the better player. I don't need stats to tell me that. There's also a thing called the eye test. Trust it every now and then.

While I'm a fan of advanced metrics in the right capacity (shooting numbers from certain areas, for example), it's not the end all, be all like some thing. I think Bud's career numbers are something like 7 ppg, 3 rpg, 1 apg in 21 minutes per game. Subpar at best, especially throwing in shooting numbers that leave a lot to be desired.

 

Whatever McHale did, it worked.

 

if bud plays like this, drives to the basket and plays good defense he might even get his role back.

 

All these guys are of similar talent but different ways. Lee, Budinger, and Parsons. They are all good and could start or be very solid backups for many teams. There is just an overabundance of them on our team. For this year it looks good because of the condensed schedule. Next year we need to have that rotation consolidated into one good player or a two.

 

Rockets have assets now, this is the new Chase (2.0). I think Parsons offensively has hit the wall, but as long as he plays defense, he should be alright. I hope Parson stays as starter as the Rockets are winning. It is good that McHale treated Budinger like a starter by resting him with the starters except Parsons.
