Golf...unless you want a power nap.

Seriously, they should allow you to pick your own channels. Create some package deals and then you can add on at a cost depending on the channel. You could still get the total package for the price they charge today if you wanted but say you only wanted to watch ESPN and Fox. The cable co has figured out that it needs to charge you $7 for ESPN and $3 for Fox. I'm sure they have to set a flat amount if you picked below a minimum so just for arguement sake say it's $5. $15 cable bill. They'd soon find out that some stations are totally worthless and drop them or those stations better start bringing their A game or find a way to lower their costs to survive.

They didn't run out of history by a long shot, it's just difficult to pay the bills on it week in and week out. I don't think half of our major wars have gotten decent documentary treatment, let alone any European, Cold War or Middle Eastern history. And I guess economic or business stuff like J.P. Morgan or the Oil Industry are just tough to package.

PBS produces 30 weeks worth of modern and contemporary history on American Experience and Frontline alone.

CSPAN could be a lot better or could have some awesome second and third networks if they really focused on archival video or more selective and efficient live event programming; a lot of times you just see an empty podium for like 5 or 10 minutes. If they ever convince the Supreme Court to televise I think it'd be a whole other ballgame.

Fox News, CNBC, MSNBC, CNN. Like the history channel, all profess to air the news, but they only air propaganda.

I've always agreed to this. I only watch maybe a dozen, maybe 15, channels. However, no matter who my cable provider is, there's always around 2 channels that I want that I'll have to pay an extra $5-10/mo for, while I don't watch the other 95% of what I got.

I understand your point, but no way would ESPN be over 2x as much as Fox. More likely the other way around.

    E! aka Kim Kardashian/Celebrity A##-kissing network . . .

MTV: They stopped playing music, like what 20 years ago to point where they had change the name.

    CBN: Christian Broadcast Network:
When failed salesmen/women, former crooks, closeted men/women, and forgotten celebrities meet Christianity.

Definitely MTV, no more music videos (also you can get them on youtube or other video sites, anytime you want).

MTV is the backbone of youth programming. Neither they nor the entire genre of rock n' roll was ever about music, it always has been and will be about creating media that allows advertisers and retailers to get suburban teenage discretionary income.

Almost the entire contemporary reality show genre was borne directly out of Real World and Road Rules. I don't know if black media or celebrity culture even begins to exist in the early '90s without hip-hop videos being beamed out to Peoria.

No one said PBS because IT'S NOT BASIC CABLE, YOU MENSA.

Anyway, I was watching PBS this morning. I was watching America's Test Kitchen, pretty entertaining.

I plan on watching this online. PBS Masterpiece got some good semi-historical stuff in the past.
