Budinger pretty much Parsonsed Parsons tonight. Well, good to know if one of them's cold, you can take a look at the other one.
Bud probably needed this kick in the pants. The talent is there but his attitude can drive you nuts. The jumper can come and go from game to game, but if he played with effort every game he'd be a good player, possibly great. Not a superstar, but a guy that could be a scorer on a good team. But he'll probably lounge around the arc and have minimal impact in the next game, sure hope I'm wrong. He should certainly be in the rotation though, never should have left.
He has an opportunity to earn his minutes back in the rotation. The reason he was taken out was because Martin, Lee, Parsons were ahead of him in the rotation (for good reason), and the 2-PG lineup also reduced the minutes available to him. McHale could have fit him in, but he'd probably only get about 10-15 minute a game. McHale is one of those coaches who prefers to play guys for longer minutes (at least 20 mpg). But if Budinger plays like he did tonight, he'll force McHale to find more minutes for him even when Martin returns.
LOL - what a piece of work...well played sir. The problem with trading him, is that he is on such a cheap contract, under $1 million, you would not get much value for him unless a team would be willing to take on a lot of our trash. Personally, I like the Parsons/Budinger punch.....contrasting styles, they give McHale different bullets to shoot from his gun. DD
so i just happened to drop Chase from my fantasy team earlier today....the night he gets some PT and scores 20+..sighs hope he can be consistent
Role players are rarely consistent, that is what many on this board fail to realize that Chase is not going to be a 20ppg scorer, he is going to average near 1 pt for every 2 minutes played..... He will have great games, average games, and bad ones....just like Parsons.....and any other role player. I think people's expecations are out of wack and it has led to undue criticism. I am glad Chase has again proven his worth. DD
I'd settle for 3 games out 5 where he contributes 10-15 points a game, while the other 2, he's doing something else to contribute like rebound and play D. So far in his career, he's scored well 1 out of 3-4 games and was worthless during the games where his shot wasn't falling. Look, I want him to do well. He seems like a nice kid and he's a rocket. But nothing I've seen from him so far says that he can be a consistent contributor to a contending team. I just wish he was consistent enough that no team could ever leave him alone like Kyle Korver. At least then, he could create space for the other players on the team.
He was consistent when he was playing consistent minutes last year, this year has been very inconsistent, hard to find a rythmn when you are in and out of the lineup, and playing with different people. Either way, saw that McHale said he is very impressed with Chase's professionalism and needs to find him more minutes....good to know that McHale finally figured out how to use him correctly. DD
The moment DD drops support for Bud is the moment Bud scores 20+. Also the moment DD picks up support for Parsons and Lowry they suck this game... Coincidence? I think not.
His minutes were pretty consistent at the beginning of last season, he just sucked. One thing I've noticed from Bud is that he is pretty much only effective playing with Lowry which is was why looked good during his rookie season. He got to play with Lowry exclusively while Lowry was beasting in the second unit.
Lowry helps him a lot because he looks for Chase in his spots and gets him the ball at the right time, same for Kmart and Scola, Lowry helps a lot of shooters. Playing Chase with Dragic running the show is a waste, Dragon doesn't pass as well as Lowry nor does he look to.....which is a big reason the 2nd unit is struggling Dragon is a shoot first attacking combo guard, and not a PG. If we had Ish Smith running the 2nd unit, I am certain all of the shooters playing with him would benefit. DD
The other night when Lowry, Dragic, and Marten were ice cold from every spot on the court. I thought McHale should have at least given Bud a few minutes to see if he had anything that night. Bench players aren't always going to have the hot hand, but when they do, they can win you games. I hope McHale will at least consider bringing in Bud if we are going bad and need some instant offense.
I disagree, the bigs aren't converting Dragic's offloads inside. Score inside and the outside opens up.
Dragic pounds the ball more, and looks to attack the basket a lot more than Kyle (Isn't that weird, Kyle used to attack it a lot but now plays more facilitator). Dragic is just not a good fit as a backup PG with guys that need the table set for them, his passes are rarely the crisp at the right point for a catch and shoot kind. I like Dragic, but there is a reason the team is a lot better with him and Kyle playing together, because Kyle is the guy that makes others better, Dragic is great when scoring, but is not a great facilitator. BTW - for those saying Chase and Parsons are not comparible, here are their season stats. CPars: .441 FG .244 3pt 7.1 PPG 5.39 RPG CBud .434 FG .377 3Pt 8 PPG 3.43 RPG -------------------------------------------------- That is pretty good production out of your two SFs....I really like the defense/offense contrast between the two, IMO, they should both be playing, and in some instances together with Chandler as the stretch PF. DD
Bud did good tonight, but Wizards is a really crappy team. If Bud can give this type of effort consistently against all types of teams, then we will be talking. Still, good effort and improvement in the right direction.
Getting Chandler more minutes as a stretch 4 would be a good way to make room for Budinger in the rotation. Good call.
You know the main point of having a stretch 4 is to actually stretch the defense with someone who can shoot, right?
