Having worked for the Astros and Rockets, in the video production area, I can tell you the GM does not know what is going on unless someone brings it to their attention.

The GM runs the basketball operations. Tad Brown is the team's CEO and runs the business side (I think).

If the GM runs the whole show, Calvin Murphy would still be announcing games.

yeah, i agree that it's a change to match the current PT...coming into the season i think everyone thought Williams would finally break out and Budinger would continue to start for a while, at least. Not many expected Parsons to even be in the rotation. Dalembert came in late when the video was probably already done. There was no tape of them in uniform.

so we're crediting Mctalky with the development of our players? Until I see J-chill routinely average a double double, I'm going to say..."whoa there mother...."

If by "we" you mean David Thorpe, then yes.

I have to disagree with this.

Some players will excel no matter what (Jordan, Dream, Wilt, Shaq) and some will fail wherever they play (Thabeet), but most players are pretty close to each other in talent, and they need an opportunity and a the proper role in order to fit in somewhere and improve.

You mention Lowry -- he is actually a great example of what Thorpe is talking about and of someone who needed the opportunity that Houston gave him to 1) get significant playing time 2) be an intregal part of their plan 3) get a starting role and 3) become the leader and focal point of the team. Memphis, and most other teams, would not give him that opportunity, because they did not believe in him the way Morey did. If left on Memphis or thrown into some other trade to a team that did not rate him as high as Houston did, he may still be languishing on some team's bench.

Nash is actually my favorite example. We all know his story, so I am not going to go through it now -- but he is the perfect example of a player who had the talent, but needed the opportunity, confidence and plan that positioned him to win two MVP's.

    Great podcast!

CP should have a shooting coach (maybe Thorpe can take him in).

Javale McGee should go to the Rockets to be coached by McHale. McGee just doesn't know how to be effective. A waste of his gifts

Larry Legend was many things, but a great defender wasn't one of them. He played excellent team D, and had a knack for a defensive gem (usually a steal) at a crucial moment in a big game, but Bird was ribbed about his defense during his career.

3 all-nba defensive second teams would say otherwise. Bird wasn't going to shut anyone down with his lateral movement, but he was effective on the defensive side of the ball.

Seems kinda like the Gold Glove in baseball, giving the award to recognizable offensive players who flash a little D now and then.

When Murray treat human man as ROBOT, man no give team feelings

But yeah, T-Will seems VERY much the stereotypical athlete that cares about the LOOKS of what he's doing, the stats and his IMAGE. Not QUITE enough about true sportsmanship.

In Bird's first 8 years in the league, the Celtics were never less 9th in the league in defense and in most years, they were top 3 or 4. No one on those teams were very athletic, but they sure new how to play team D. My point is McHale is old school and he believes in playing on both sides of the ball. That is why Parsons got burn even though he was a rookie 2nd rounder over a incumbent starter and a lottery pick. It is also why Courtney Lee will get more playing than Bud.

Martin has been playing out of his mind lately. Right now Kyle Lowry needs to sit in favor of Dragic.

I would not jump the gun and say that Bird was good on defense. He was never known for his defense, deservedly so.
