I used to think the Cosby and Growing Pains were funny..but when I see them now, they're just corny. Very few shows hold up over time..here are my favorites... MASH - funny and poignant <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/MGZAA_q6CQE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Sanford & Son <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/5qzRSU2NWmE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> and my favorite - Night Court (Brent Spiner - Data from Star Trek- is incredible in this one) <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/jrLvtoKZfxY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Crap, I never even realized that was Brent Spiner. I loved that character (and Night Court). Sanford & Son is probably one of my top 5 shows of all time. I never found MASH to be all that - I just couldn't get into it from the few episodes I watched. I still watch Three's Company, Good Times, Andy Griffith, Cheers, I Love Lucy, etc. Lots of good shows from the past out there. This scene from Night Court had me rolling when I first saw it. Dan's trying to catch a flight to be with a hottie from what I recall and for the last case of the night, in comes .... <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/LC6rrzwnY60" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
This is from an episode of I Love Lucy from 1952. Sixty years old and still funnier than 99% of the crap on television. Amazing. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/0YGF5R9i53A" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Night Court was awesome, kind of mid-wifed the wacky New York genre between Taxi and Seinfeld. Despite those dreadful early attempts at moral arcs (remember the Judge Stone - Michael J. Fox "hard hug?"), there was very little distracting relationship stuff. My favorite line was when Art was cleaning his ears with Dan's pen and Dan said "give me that you....frog!"
God, I love how America was back in the 50's. Not the part regarding racial segregation and the other issues of the day, of course, but, on the whole, people had class. Curse the societal breakdown in the 70's. We're still reeling from that generation's mistakes today.
I still remember when Bull thought Art was God and said something like "It's all clear now! Our father who is Art in Heaven!"
i generally think most pre-Cheers sitcoms were unfunny or at best were barely passable (just too much time has passed i guess) and that there are tons of shows from the 90's on i would watch before virtually anything back then, but i'm always impressed at how well I Love Lucy holds up. damn near the first sitcom on television and still pretty funny all this time later. you gotta be pretty good at comedy to be funny 60 years later. i also like the dick van dyke and mary tyler moore shows.
"I Love Lucy" "The Honeymooners" ^Those two are still two of my favorite T.V. shows for God's sake, and they were way before my time. ...and I know you all will disagree with me, but that show "Father Knows Best" has a surprisingly modern sensibility given the era it was made in (aside from the usual racial stereotypes of the time).
One of the more hilarious scenes from a great comedy. Archie tells us how he'd end skyjackings : <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/CLjNJI54GMM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
yep you are right! chespirito was very good. that show still have good ratings in some south america countries.
Man About The House. This was the UK series Three's Company was based on. It's the only clip I could find. It's not PC. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Fij9nflG5SQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
