Is he worth $10 million more per season today? No. There's a reason why there's trade speculation stating that he may be available.

Is he worth $10 million more per season tomorrow? Maybe. Paired with a pass 1st PG ala Kyle Lowry I think Stoudemire would be make us contenders in the West. Is that worth $10 million more per season? I think so.

The West is still wide open this year and it's for anybodys taking.

    I think a starting 5 of:

    Lowry
    Martin
    Parsons
    Stoudemire
    Dalembert

Is as good as any out West.

    That's insane.

That said, he clearly makes the Rockets a better team.

I don't put a lot of faith in cap room.

But that salary is way way way to out of control.

There is a reason Amar'e's contract is UNinsured.

BTW - - what would the Knixies do with a draft pick? They want off the shelf stars!

Yes ... Amare is an upgrade over Scola and is perceived to be a star in this league ... Losing Dragic is ok because he's probably leaving after this season anyway ... plus Lull is coming to Houston next season (isn't he?)

    win-win

As others have said, a couple of years ago would be different, but why go into cap hell for this dude now? $18,217,705 this season, then $19,948,799, $21,679,893, $23,410,988, with no team options, unlike Scola on his last year, when we have an option. Could we even use the amnesty provision on Stoudemire if we acquired him, hadn't used it, and he didn't pan out? Bima, somebody?

Plenty of risks in the trade...but this franchise has played it safe long enough now.

Great thing about risks in this league is it either pays off and we are all talking about how great the trade was...or it doesn't and we are talking about being a lotto team again which we are any ways.

actually doubt celtics would do it...but this would be genius

    http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7nx6ng9

You replace scola and martin perrty much verbatim with guys that have 1 year deals. Makes you slightly better this year and next year we would have CRAZZY cap room and ability to keep allen and or garnet on the cheap if they wanna win now.

Say we use the cap space to sign howard and dwill outright..

    Lowry
    Dwill/lee
    Parsons
    Patterson
    Howard

then maybe garnet and or allen stick around

I'd say you take it IF the Knicks actually take more of our players. The Rockets don't look like they are clearing out any space next year (unless they can parlay some of the players in this trade for expirings instead of Amare).

So might as well try something like this:
    http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7dqvz8d

I believe Amare with Lowry performing well, would be a great magnet for a star, so with the Rockets getting rid of 7 mill or so of contracts for next year + not picking up option on Thabeet, we MAY be able to get another max player.

It will leave the Rockets with about 55-56 million in contracts, I believe before Lux Tax the limit is around 70mill. So a few tweeks, and a superstar could be had (price wise, who knows if they'll pick Houston).

I have never been a huge Amare fan, but before Melo arrived, he was playing great in NY, and the Rockets need a player that can be a magnet.

IDEALLY I'd love to see Dwight come here, but if the Rockets can get Amare, I think a few pieces could really make the Rockets look good (even if no Max player):

    http://www.hoopsworld.com/2012-nba-free-agents

Fillers like: Andre Miller or 1 season Ray Allen and this season try to parlay Kmart's contract and Dalembert into a Dwight.

All MASSIVE hypotheticals, but I believe if Amare is here, and we can somehow get a desperate Magic team to bite on a trade for Dwight, I believe Dwight would resign here.

No way in hell do I touch that contract with those uninsurable knees, especially with the 'check engine' light blinking on them. AND give them their pick back? You have to be kidding me.

Try Scola, Thabeet, Flynn, Williams for Amare and a NYK 2nd rd pick

...and even then, I probably don't do it.

This trade is even more acceptable than the Melo trade.

You gotta remember, it takes talent to get talent.
