There always were rumors about this, but I don't think they'll pull it. It would piss off a LOT of their customers. I personally have no problem with it as I buy all my 360 games new&sealed from amazon or ebay, most of them for under 40€. I also tend to not buy on release, a few weeks later you can get these games new for 25 bucks or somethin in that range.

Now on 2nd thought I realize that would mean you couldn't borrow games from your friends, that's complete BS. Your buddy wouldn't be able to bring a game to your house, he would have to bring his HDD or console with him. BS!

Kinda surprised they are going with new hardware so soon. Its not like current games look like they need help from new hardware. Anyway, you'd think it would cost way too much to make a game to take advantage of the systems full capability anyway.

On top of that, with the ability to play games with a company such as OnLive, do people really need to spend so much on a system any more?

This sounds like a conspiracy between the hardware manufacturers and the game developers to kill stores like Gamestop. Gamestop and similar stores thrive on selling the "pre-owned" stuff because they don't have to give any of the sale to the game developers. Their profit is whatever extra they charge over what they pay people for it. And they're fine with giving 10% discounts to people for pre-owned games since they make out like bandits on the whole deal.

Still, this would really suck. I can't imagine all the system manufacturers agreeing to do this, and if they don't all agree I doubt any of them would do it because it would put them at such a disadvantage in the market.

This is where xbox fails. Just like back in the day with MSN, they get enough people and then they try sticking it to you.

With the racket gamestop was running, it was bound to come to this. Eventually everything is going to be online distribution anyway, the era of popping a disc into a game console is coming to an end.

Good for XBox.......used games are sucking the $$$ out of developers hands, and yes, I buy them too.

All it means is that used games shops will have to share some of their revenue to get new keys I expect.

As a consumer i don't like it, but the way it has been done doesn't seen fair.

75% of my games have been bought used, only rarely do i buy new. It seems they could work out some kind of financial arrangement without going to this extreme.

How would it work, what if you hate the game and want to return it. Or going to a friends, or what if you have to replace your system. It seems like maybe they could force you to pay for an online license to play the game or something of that nature. So they could keep making a profit even on secondhand games.

They have a legit beef, but this just seems extreme.

An article I read not too long ago said that Microsoft and Sony estimated the 360 and PS3 had another 5 years of life in them before a new console would be introduced to the market. Is that true?

Yes, but they are factoring in people that still play 360 games etc when their new consoles are out.

Generally there is a 3 year window where one overtakes the other one and they coexist.

    $80-$100. Would be shocked if it's $60

That doesn't really make sense if they're able to make more money off of the used game market with this new distribution model. Ideally, game prices would either stay the same... or go down. (lol that'll be the day)

So, I went to Europe this past holiday and noticed that game prices are ridiculous. 70 euros for a new game. That's damn near $100. I don't know how gamers do it over there.
