Frankly, I think Obama beats Romney, or anyone else in the field, but he crushes Gingrich. It's a happy coincidence, at least from where I sit, that in my opinion, Gingrich will win the nomination.

Wolf's only mandate is to interrupt if candidates starts talking about Obama rather than each other.

    Do you know your investments?

Newt got his hypocritical politics of personal destruction pants pulled down.

Dammit, I hope I don't. I've felt rather strongly for a while that the Republican base simply doesn't like Romney, and that they would eventually coalesce around "The Not Romney Guy." Newt has become that guy, IMO. I certainly could be wrong. (I'm wrong! I'm wrong! NO JINX!!)

There are enough Republicans who know this, which is why Newt won't get the nod.

    Reverse "jinx". ;)

Got home late from rehearsal and just finished watching the debate.

I hope Romney's paying his new debate coach better than he pays his housekeepers. Either way the new coach deserves a raise. After that debate I don't see a path for Newt in Florida so I don't much see a path for him after Florida.

Santorum had a stellar night I thought and helped himself more than anyone but Mitt. He's likely I think to get some bump out of that debate and outperform expectations in Florida. I still think he'll place third but if he goes up and Newt goes down, the momentum of a close third could feel like a win. And then it's Santorum and not Newt that presents the greatest challenge to Romney. If there's a challenge left to be presented.

If Romney wins by double-digits in FL, that's probably the game.

Anything could happen, as always, but the debates were Newt's best chance and he blew both of them.

If Mitt cruises now I'll be sad as a political news junkie, as of course I prefer a long, drawn out process, especially one in which Republicans are beating up on each other. But then again, none of them have been very good at it. Mitt's Dukakis, he's John Kerry, he's a horrible candidate. That no one's really been able to lay a glove on him is pretty remarkable. I mean, his dips have all pretty much been self-inflicted.

So maybe I am ready for this primary to be over. I don't fear Mitt in the general. And once the nomination's sewn up, it's open season for the Democrats to take over exposing his weaknesses. And that will be much more fun.

Are you still getting your news from actual newspapers? No offense, but this post makes it seem like you might be a day behind.

I think with the bad economy even many of the Christian Right and the Tea Party types are starting to not like the country club rich guy Republicans and Romney is almost like a Hollywood stereotype of the clueless rich guy.

this is aside from the fact that they don't believe Mitt when he tries to pretend he doesn't believe in science or supports the American Enterpise Institute last gasp plan to keep health care CEO's wealthy and involved in our health insurance-- that is "Obama Care".

Thanks, Batman. As a professional in the presentation area and self confessed political junkie your views on the debate are almost like gospel to me. I've been rooting for Newt partly because I find him so entertaining and he has a fighting spirit that it is too bad Obama the plegmatic does not have a bit of.

I get my news from all over the place. No offense taken. I still think he's going to take it. If he doesn't, he'll certainly tar Romney out the kazoo while going down to defeat. Then he'll write a novel about it. Historical science fiction.

If he wanted to tar Romney out the kazoo he just gave up his last best chances to do it. He did the same in Iowa. I don't think he's got another resurrection left in him.

I disagree on Obama. I think he has a ton of fight in him and history will show that he preferred getting things done and did.

Being a junkie of this sort, I'm hoping someone will give Santorum the money to stay in. Or that the white knight scenario finally comes to pass after so many cycles of it not. I remember being at the 92 DNC convention in NYC, working for Jerry Brown as his driver and one of his advance men, knowing as we had all along he wouldn't be the nominee but wishing with all my heart that ABC (anybody but Clinton) would come to pass. I still haven't gotten over Mario Cuomo passing on that race.

Romney was so on tonight it almost made me forget what a flawed candidate he was. Then I remembered the only reason he didn't look as flawed as usual was because his present opponents are so flawed. Want to see Obama fight? Wait til he takes Mitt on. It's gonna be a beautiful thing.

I hope you're right, man. Just because it would make the news so fun. I remember feeling the same way when we got Barkley and I couldn't wait to pick up the newspaper to see what crazy thing he had to say that day. I fear though that still thinking Newt's going to take it at this point is kind of like still thinking Cain will.

I wonder what would happen if Palin jumped into this race. Would she be the fringe candidate that Democrats like to paint her as? Would she capture the not Mitt vote? I would have a tough time choosing between her and Ron Paul, mostly because she seems a bit more electable (believe it or not). I certainly would think she destroys Santorum or Gingrich.

Sarah Palin is so tarnished now she can't destroy anybody. If she was still relevant in any way, she would still be milking attention.
