I wasn't going to post this thread. I went to jail on thursday the 12th for something really stupid after getting pulled over. basically someone i was riding with tried to get rid of something. I would have gotten out the next day on pr bond, but i had some unpaid tickets. I chose to sit the tickets out since i am unemployed. also, harris county court isn't open on Friday's which was the thirteenth and monday was mlk. i'm not kidding, i had a probable cause hearing with this http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=news/local&id=8505425 and this story. i'll let you look at the links to continue my cool story bro. look at the dates, these cases both went on friday the thirteenth in their original process with my bs misdemeanor charges.
read the stories. i was in there with the asian kid who killed his mom who was a prominent member of the vietnamese business communtiy and another big case where a kid was shot by a cop in a burglary and they are pinning the murder on him because of a law in tx. two high profile cases, and mine
Did you talk to these two? By the way, all the best for your job search. Can you tell us about how it was in jail? (not joking, genuinely interested)
thanks. it wasn't too bad. harris county jail system is under constant fed watch because of some lawsuits. i will say, seeing them move hundreds of cases through the courts was impressive. that was a problem. they wake you up at six, and some cases didn't make it till the next day. my case was done before noon. the only problem i had was with a stupid nurse. i'm diabetic, they have medicine but i was having some trouble because they were adjusting dosages. she charged me for a visit when my blood sugar got too low which they did on my first night and another time afterwards. chronic diseases aren't supposed to be charged for. don't worry tax payers, you don't get free bull crap visits. coffee is like crack in there. i was let out before i got mine. i was really upset because i had to go serve the warrants in another jail because they weren't houston. i was in there with people going to fed cases, little cases, a guy who was dying of colon cancer who had a five million dollar bond on embezelment (sp)
(Not addressed to the OP).... Pay your tickets and take care of your business fellas. Harris County downtown detention center is NOT the place you wanna be. Years ago, when I was young and stupid, I got pulled over for rolling through a stop sign. Turned out they found an unpaid speeding ticket from 4 years prior (that I had legitimately forgotten about) but somehow they hadn't. Big Mistake. I spent 72 hours in lockup downtown and was even to the point of being assigned a cell when I was finally released. Jail is everything you think it is and worse. Scary as hell where NOBODY...especially the cops....give a rats ass about you. They feed you by tossing it at you. Bathroom? No doors in the stalls, no privacy and gross. After your 1 phone call, no communication with the outside world. Better hope they are home too cause you only get the 1. Sleep? Ya right. NOBODY sleeps in those holding cells. Too damn scary. Weirdos coming up to you? Yes. Scary dudes eyeballing you? Yes. Nasty clothing issued? Yes. Absolutely the worst experience of my life and will NEVER be repeated.
the burglary kid was on the phone with his friends. he didn't have a care. he couldn't have been twenty. the asian kid was out of it. he did talk. we didn't know what he was there for till after the court. he had bite marks up and down his forearm from them sicking the canines on him. the bit marks stopped exactly below the elbow. dogs are trained to stop there so they won't bite into arteries
At Harris County Jail they put in a room with people, move you to another and then another while they process you. You take off your clothes in front of everyone and change into the orange jumpsuit. You get food and water and that is about it. If you stay in for a while then you go through classification for a longer stay. They will give you things you need for hygiene. Jail is boring and cold, that is really all you need to know. Well that, and you are surrounded by criminals.
It is not like that anymore, you get many phone calls. They have them in most of the holding cells during processing. Right before your medical examination you get your last call for a while. Prob don't get another one until you are assigned a cell.
that's right, like i said, they are being threatened by having the fed take over for a while. they are straightening things out.
I was crammed in a small room, everyone standing bc there is no room to sit, right before you see your attorney. They close the door and you run out of air so people faint. Do they still do that? I was there in 2009, this was before they were being scrutinized.
wow...puts a whole lotta crap in perspective, doesn't it. I have to admit...I thought the first link was your cool story -- thought ---DAMN -- and then when I saw you were also involved with the second.....I realized the articles weren't about you...PHEW. Yet there you were.....sitting on the group W bench....right along side those mean and nasty people... Except that first kid. Who I think is getting a raw deal. Policeman shoots his friend and he gets charged for murder? Crazy. (and good luck with the job search....you've been off a while, no?).
No, I was talking about right before you see your court appointed attorney. I saw my attorney, who I did not use, after video court.
not to derail but i had a great interview three weeks ago. i was trying to get everyone to check my messages to make sure they didn't call. I did contact them afterwards and they said i was still in the running. here's my situation now, i took defered adjudication which is not pleading either way. they wrote me up for .1 grams of weed which wasn't on me. my friend tried to toss it. the cop was mad took me to jail. i would have fought it but i had to wait. I didn't want to, but i will have to explain why i was written up for less than a doobie if i'm ever questioned by an employer. the police report doesn't even said it was on me.
anyway, now i have street cred. seriously, its tough getting rid of the slang. its funny how you lose track of time, just ten days has thrown me completely off.
