After the obligatory recruiting trip, maybe we take back a player under contract from a team looking to shed some salary, using our cap space. Someone like Iggy, Granger, Al Jefferson or Gasol, in exchange for a draft pick, or a young player on a small contract.
Eric Gordon and Omer Asik would be amazing acquisitions but both are restricted free agents. We would need to trade for them in season in order to obtain them.
Hmm I don't know who the Rox are targetting, the FAs next year are pretty thin except for the obvious 2. IMHO we're targetting a deadline deal rather than FA, and the 09ers weren't extended so they become expiring deals to be used in a trade. I don't know who it is, maybe Pau Gasol lol. Scola+Hasheem Thabeet+Dragic for Gasol or something lol
We will probably have 2 or 3 rookies next season and possibly 4 unless there is a trade. DMo Rockets 1st rounder Knicks 1st rounder TPups 2nd rounder and if we are bad enough and our own 2nd rounder is a top 35 pick (not likely) then that is a 5th rookie. Of course we could also end up with only DMo and the TPups 2nd rounder if the Knicks have a top 5 pick and we make the play-offs so we are actually only garunteed two rookies next season. But as you can see we can use the open roster spots.
Heres two names I am surprised havent been mentioned: Gerald Wallace - has been rumored to be opting out of his contract Brook Lopez - RFA who may be cut lose as NJ tries to woo Howard. Two options: 1.) Amnesty Scola 2.) Waive Dalembert That would give us 24 million in cap room, which I think might be enough to nab both of those guys. Lowry / Llull Martin / Lee Wallace / Parsons / Bud Patterson / Morris / (Scola) Lopez / (Dalembert)
None we are trading this year Lowry and Scola for Deron and Thabeet, Flynn, Hill, and Twill for Howard.
Uh...Lopez is a soft unathletic center, why the hell would you want him? He's had like zero impact on the court, the Nets last year and nets this year are fairly identical despite him being out. I'd rather keep Dalembert. GW is a nice player but he's getting up there in age, and his style of plays leads to a lot of injuries.
Even if you don't think that team is better than what we have now, adding Wallace and Lopez adds tremedous trade pieces to use. Adding good players in free agency is never a bad idea. As long as you arent: Its good to add good/great players.
Think about this, If they rockets realize that DHoward isnt coming here we could go after BLopez right away while NJ waits for Howard, they wont match the offer.
ya but he holds a lot more value around the league in terms of trades... - he is a young offensive centre who regressed on rebounds - great chance for a buy low situation
I'd like to think they were going hard after Howard and .... Batum , tho the latter is going to be an RFA and the former is probably a pipe dream. Its really tough to understand what the team is thinking when they have so many options open to them between now and free agency. This team may look considerably different by the deadline .... Im at a complete loss. I know I'd like to see the PF spot upgraded .... but with Montejunas coming over next season .... they may just wait. With Lee being an RFA , I expect them to do the same thing they did with Lowry , let another team make him an offer and match it. Dragic .... His deal expires and he's an unrestricted FA. I have a feeling someone's going to throw starters money and minutes at him. They will only have 5 guy's on guaranteed contracts next season , Scola , Martin , Lowry , Morris and Parsons. (not counting Montejunas just yet) Budinger , Dalembert and Patterson all have team options. They've free'd up quite a bit of cap space (~17m) and several roster spots .... Lots of options open. Your guess is as good as mine as to who or how they fill out next years roster. If we are playing fantasy roster .... Lowry/Dragic Martin/Lee Batum/Parsons/Morris Montejunas/Patterson/Scola D.Howard/Dalembert
