I think - as has happened over the years that the Rockets get used as leverage, and that Nene would have always signed back with Denver.

I believe, just as strongly as you do, that the evidence shows only that conclusion.

Id say its a bit contradicting that Fans like DD complain about les' n Morey's methods when it comes to extensions and restricted free agency when the ultimate model they hold up is Mark Cuban and the Mavericks. The Same Cuban that let 3 key members of a championship team walk and replaced them with discounted ticket items.

Not saying Cuban did the wrong thing be letting them walk, but I am saying that Morey and Les' contractual methods are becoming consistent to pretty much every other team in the NBA. Now even the money burning Dallas Mavericks.

The Rockets and Les are no better, nor any worse. They were just ahead of the curve.

 

Leeb, why do you think the Amare physical was BS? Amare's knees are uninsurable, no one wants to take a risk on his knees unlike Yao Ming. And they are uninsurable because either Amare or the PHX org doesn't want to take a physical.

Also even if you were correct, the deal as is is horrible. Taking on Amare's contract while still paying Scola 9M to be a 10 min bench player is a horrible move. We'd basically be committing 49M on just 3 players: Yao, Amare and Scola. Not sure I like that idea.

I think we got sidetracked about the Nene issue, Bima contends that he was coming here, I contend that was not the case.

Neither of us can prove anything, neither of us actually know, so I am not sure why it matters so much.

I am fine with him believing he would have signed here, and me believing he wouldn't have.....

The Mavericks however spent years over the salary cap in pursuit of that championship, they brought in high priced players like Laettner and Jamison which they could then flip if necessary, they were not trying to TRIM payroll they were adding it.

So much so that it pissed off their minority investors.....and they sued because of it.

Les however, has consistently wiggled to get under the cap, and has always SAID he would take on money if the right deal came along, and shockingly that deal never came along.

To me, it reads like lip service, and nothing more....and when they finally paid the tax, it was such a pittance and was covered more than 20 fold by Yao's insurance money.

So, while we the fans were cheering for Yao and company to get healthy and make a run the Rockets were making more $$$$ than they have ever made in their franchise history because of the insurance payments of Yao and Tmac...and IMO, they did not use that $$$ to make the team that much better.

I dont think the league sees management not extending Lee, T-Will, Budinger , and all these other role players, as a view of being cheap.. If we showed promise with a star in place, then FAs will come arunnin... If anything, it'll show them that we not trying to get better via outside personnell(FA's)...But want to have a farm system approach toward building... (Pistons, Thunder).... I mean seriously DD, would you want to come to a team(if you are Howard) if we extended Thabeet for 6/7 million... DHoward is with a team now that extended and overpaid, idiotically, to role players, leaving them damn near stagnant...

For the record, I think Budinger will be extended in June, his contract is so cheap it is almost an auto extend.

Nope. I dont see why they are viewed as nonglamorous either when Yao Ming was made into a international supertar the biggest this league has ever had. The fact that Tmac was at one time the second or third most popular player in this league. Then you add on the fact these two made some of the most money in the league at one point. It seems all of these fals perceptions of Houston are totally made up by agents or players trying to direct their player elsewhere. There just happens to only be a few places where a guy like Yao Ming and Tmac could have possibly had more glamour, fame, and Money. Like a total of less than 3 perhaps in the entire league. People forget this is the place where Hakeem Olajuwon played, Drexler, Barkley, Moses Malone, Pistol Pete, Elvin Hayes, Calvin Murphy. Heck you want to be a big star? This is the place..

I guess its because BIMA is someone "in the know", or at least he has more connections than an average Joe like me. Although its never been confirmed, Nene coming here is almost taken as fact, like how the Rox were supposed to take Sefolosha if they didn't trade for Battier.

I guess you being obstinate made him feel like you were trying to argue water is not wet LOL. Personally, even if you had no confirmation I think logically Denver wasn't Nene's first choice. If it was, why didn't he sign the extension immediately, and why did he sign for less money than he could be given?

There are only a few teams which would be appealing to Nene, and given the fact that Mchale was spotted in Denver airport I'd have to think we were one of those destinations.

 

Pippen, Glen Rice, Mutumbo, Rudy Tomjanovich, Rick Adelman coached, Kevin Mc Hale, Steve Francis, want more glamour??? How much more glamorous do athletes need these days? Of course he did, that's what every FA would do.

There is a probable chance, a very good chance in fact, that Nene would come to Houston if Pau came over. It's not 100%, but from what you see around the league and from commentators (of other teams I might add), they're all aware that Nene has a good chance of coming here.
