Hornets are either going to overpay for him or they'll lose him. Either way they're ****ed. Suck it Stern.
I'd make a run at this guy for sure... Use Martin for young talent or to secure another position and bring this kid in.. He's fun to watch..
I wonder If they would deal him at the deadline? Kyle Lowry and Eric Gordon would make for a RIDICULOUS backcourt on offense and defense...
I think indy is going to make a run at him even as a restricted fa. Indy has a lot of cap room and some decent talent to boot. They might offer up a guy like paul george and say hill for gordon. I mean if the hornets can get paul g and g hill for gordon, they should take it.
I doubt the Pacers give up that much for him. Gordon doesn't deserve a max contract and I wish we knew what the Hornets offered. Waiting until the last second made this a take-it-or-leave-it proposition. Bad move by Stern. Should have decided last week so the sides could have discussed it a few days. For Stern to play hardball in the CP3 trade and then lose EG to free agency would be ironic and stupid.
I hope he signs the one year offer and walks away from N.O. in 2013. That would make Stern look like an idiot. In the meantime, N.O. has got to give 85% of the salary cap to somebody.....good luck.
There's no way I'd sign an extension there having no idea who the next owner might be. They really should've just contracted the team.
I'd be very excited about the defensive prospects of a Lowry/Gordon back court. I wish he was a tad taller, but he's a stud on both sides of the ball. Unfortunately, the SG position is probably the easiest to fill in the NBA, and we have Martin, Lee, and Dragic who can all play at a high level. Still, if we found a way to reduce the logjam, Gordon has vastly more upside than almost anyone on our roster. Still, dealing with Stern is a fools' errand. Sad thing is, if you now look at the two trade proposals from the offseason (ours vs. the clips), they should have gone with the Odom, Martin, Scola, Dragic, NY pick deal. Aminu is a bust (i've always thought so), Gordon will bolt after next season (if he even makes it through restricted free agency this offseason), Eric Bledsoe hasn't played a minute of basketball this year, and Minny's pick will likely be late lotto (and you had to know it wasn't going to be early lotto with Adelman coaching). So I think New Orleans' fans should be furious. They'd be a good bet for the playoffs if they had taken our deal, and they'd have two lotto picks as well.
That logam can easily be removed since Dragic and Lee's contract are expiring. But I knew that unprotected minny pick this year would be fool's gold. I think that's even more of an incentive for minny to play to win because they have nothing to lose. As for Gordon, I'd do it in a heart beat! Too bad he can't ever stay healthy for some reason.
You're exactly right and that is one of the reasons that I maintain Minnesota is gonna be fighting to make the playoffs until they are eliminated. I think they've got a good chance to sneak in because Rubio/Love are only going to get better as they work together more and everybody knows how Adelman does things. They're not trying to lose. They're trying to win. Don't be surprised if they are the 8th seed. And yes, I hope that trade turns out to be a huge donut for the Hornets and Stern's handling of the whole thing causing the NBA owners to continue to lose enough money until they force him out. He's been a very good commish. But he's been there too long and he's read too many of his own press clippings. He needs to go.
Actually, this does not hurt the Hornets at all (unless I am missing something). The Hornets offered him a 4 year 62 million dollar deal, which is the most (or, perhaps more) than what anyone else can offer him in the offseason. So, at worst, Gordon (who is a RFA) will sign with another team for the same amount of money, and then the Hornets can match. Honestly, I am a little surprised by Gordon. Having injury issues in the season already, if he does not have a great year, he might end up with a lot worse contract next season.
I'd say that was a probably scenario, not the worst. Worst case scenario he actually takes the qualifying offer and walks next year.
