Considering it was originally the idea of a conservative Republican Senator in the 1990's, I'd say yes.

This is the exact kind of short-term memory fail that has led to this...

Moderate is the new liberal. Conservative is the new moderate. Uber-batsh1t-crazy is the new conservative.

Ok, then that is where we disagree. Glad we got to the bottom of it.

thadeus was saying Obama is moderate. I was saying it is possible Obama is NOT moderate but his results are. It seems you are saying his results are conservative. It doesn't really change my initial argument to thadeus. You just kinda took it one step further.

People need to be reminded on a constant basis that the Reagen White House came up with cap-and-trade and, that the universal mandate is a conservative idea.

It's comical that these "compromises" forged originally by conservatives, have become bats*** crazy ideas for this new generation. Shows how far to the right some have swung.

The left needs to start swinging back, carbon taxes, and single-payer health care systems are damn good ideas.

It's amazing to me how in 20 years time we've moved the goalposts so far in one direction. Republicans HATE admitting this has happened, but it's an obvious and inconvenient truth for them. They are an extremist party, and it's only getting worse. There are a handful of places where we SORELY need leftist policies to balance things out. Healthcare and education are two big ones IMO.

I wouldn't vote for a republican or a democrat, what are my other options?

Pres. Obama will win in Nov.

Our civil liberties and our economy are on the brink

Other than that this should be a great speech if you are a democrat, just like Bush's SOTU were great if you were a republican.

But if you are neither, then this will be more political blah blah blah

I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: "Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown
And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear:
`My name is Obamandias, King of Kings:
Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!'
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away".

The transcript has been up since about 8 CT. I've already read it. I wasn't about to watch live with all the undeserved clapping and bs

Ronald Reagan's ghost could've written the speech and he still wouldn't have been impressed as it came out of Obama's mouth..
