I don't think anyone claims to be some kind of stat guru.

I've watched Rudy Gay play, and I don't care for his game. Its the same thing for guys like Ellis, Evans, Marbury, Francis, etc.

I think they are very flashy players who gain a lot of hype for putting up volume numbers. The advanced statistics just so happen to support the claim. This is called backing up your arguments with evidence.

Look, I know you are frustrated. I know you are waiting to fullfil your sig, but the Grizzlies are a mediocre team and will not be a contender with their current core of players. We both know this.

All that matters is whether you are a contender or not. Neither the Rockets nor the Grizzlies are so, the ranking of non-contender teams is mostly irrelevant.

Using your logic, the Mavericks won the title because of DeShawn Stevenson, not Dirk... and dont argue, because the standings show the Mavericks won, so I am right and you are wrong....

Moronic, correct? Yes.... you fell off the logic train at some point in time and hit your head. I am sure you are a nice guy, but lack basic fundamental comprehension skills.

    The Grizzlies are ****.
Watch them flame out and crash near the end of the season.

I hate when all the fans of a crappy team start acting all arrogant after a single good season. Hard to root for the underdog when their fans are complete douchebags.

I'm just arguing the way yall argue. Don't get mad because I turned it around on yall.

I think a lot of rockets fans hate the grizzlies because of specific reasons:

    a) because the grizzlies landed a solid all star player Rudy at the expense of the rockets.

    b) because the grizzlies were supposed to have stayed in their place, meaning once gasol's contract was up (one rudy's and randolph's contract were up) they were suppose to trade them to the rockets for the rockets scrubs, which didn't happen.

    c) the rockets traded battier back to the grizzlies for thabust.

    d) the grizzlies salary dump was supposed to be an indication that the grizzlies was a bottom feeder and people are generally up in arms that it actually made the grizzlies a better team.

I will also say this, if you don't like the way the grizzlies play basketball, you just don't like basketball. The grizzlies are one of the most hard working teams out there and we play hard nosed defense every night. :)

I hate to burst your bubble, but I don't think anyone cares about the Grizzlies at all, friend.

Nor do I think that anyone really cares about missing out on the Rudy Gay experience.

Don't care about the Grizzlies in terms of a "rivalry" at all.

There have been countless threads in GARM that prove otherwise. A lot of people wish we had Gay. Of course a lot of people wanted Melo.

To be fair, the bar set by guys like you & DaDakota ("I don't need no advanced metrics, they are influenced by human error, that's why I trust a TRAINED EYE") is so incredibly low, it's hard not to seem like a wunderkind in comparison.

PS - the "lack of context" argument is one the most self-pwning - it reminds me of how DaDakota once launched into diatribe about adjusted +/- because it "doesn't account for your teammates or opponents" - when in fact it was expressly designed to solve for the problem of teammates and opponents.

Newer metrics take great pains to solve for context, pretty much the exact opposite of traditional ones that you tend to rely on - which don't at all.

What: nobody gives a crap about the Memphis Grizzlies, or Rudy Gay.

Dark days for both teams. Neither are contenders. Rockets have more flexibility, Grizzlies have more talent.

Rudy Gay is a good basketball player, I wish he was on the Rockets but post-max contract.. Does not sting so much. He's a nice Joe Johnson-Iggy-Josh Smith-J-Rich (younger) type talent.

I still trade Battier for Thabeet. That first round pick netted us Donatas. Fair enough for me.

What the hell is with Rockets fans overrating subpar to OK athletic players? The constant whining about how "T-Will" (the guy who couldn't start for a HORRID Nets team) doesn't get minutes. Labeling Rudy Gay an "All-Star" (something he's never actually been) and saying he's as good as Durant.

I know the grass is usually greener on the other side, but seriously, WTF?

These stats show Marc Gasol to be one of the most efficient players in the league.

They also show Conley, Randolph, and Gay to be a very effective players.

What are these Memphis fans complaining about?

Oh, and I would take Love over Gay, Randolph, and Conley any day of the week and twice on Sundays. Other than Love, and Rubio who do they have in Minnesota? Randolph? Beasley? Webster? Yet they're 7-9.

With 11 minutes left in the 4th, Kevin Love has 9 rebounds, 32 points, and he's raining threes today. What more could you ask from a big man? He put his team up by 3 points late in the third, but since then the Rockets have rallied back to go up by 11 points. It's not his fault his teammates keep missing shots, and they're not feeding him the ball. His defense has been sound.

I don't judge players just by stats. As durvasa mentioned earlier they are helpful sometimes. I rate players by current performance, age, body of work, and recent body of work (last few seasons factoring injuries). I don't watch every game, but when I notice someones been putting up monster stats I pay attention to him to determine how he is getting those numbers.

For example, Hedo Tureyglue, and Ryan Andersen only do well because they have Dwight to make their job so much easier.

For the third time, Rudy Gay does not make 20 mill a year nor will he ever make that much money on his current contract.

At the very least, he's a much more valuable asset (contract included) than anybody currently on the Rockets.

Morey and all his asset collecting haven't been able to trade up and crack the top 5 of the draft even though he's tried, but the Griz had the Cavs approach THEM about trading Rudy Gay for the #4 pick in the 2011 draft:

    http://aol.sportingnews.com/nba/fee...wn-offer-from-cavs-for-no-4-pick-for-rudy-gay

This is what happens when you have one of the best small forwards in the NBA on your team. Gay is definitely top 5 at his position...I would rank him as #4 in the league behind Lebron, Durant, and Melo.
