^^^That sounds like a whole lotta money for two players rapidly declining.

Allen will be 37 this summer and KG has like 16 seasons under his belt. I would hope they'd be glad just to get around 6 mill each. At most 8, but for just a one year deal.

That would free up a ridiculous amount of cap, and we would probably get better defense and production...

Wouldn't you think maybe Boston would enjoy a ton of cap room? What is really their incentive in absorbing Martin and Scola's contracts right now? They certainly don't get better financially or on the court...

If they are trading for younger pieces I don't think Scola and Martin at their salaries are exactly what they are looking for.

If they were to trade Garnett, it would take a lot from a team to get him. That expiring is MASSIVE. Remember how desperate teams were for McGrady's contract? I wonder if Boozer and Noah and filler would get it done. It would give Boston a new promising center which they have sorely lacked along with an overpriced 4 (poison pill) who could flourish in a new system with Rondo. This could open up room for the Bulls to go after Howard and allow Taj to man the 4. All depends on how much Boston likes Noah I guess. Just a thought...

Who knows? It depends, like someone else said, on what Danny Ainge is looking for. I'm not sure that expirings are as valuable as they were a few years ago. (We didn't end up with much anyway...)

My basketball coach gave me that name back in the day because of the size of my balls (figuratively speaking...) He said that I should wear a spoon instead of a jock strap. Not really sure what he was talking about, but after that he called me Spooner the whole freaking year....

Does this mean the Celtics will not try to "win now" by acquiring more veterans? Are they trading the vets for young players and picks to go into lotto mode? Silly Les Alexander will try to make the Rockets into a playoff contender and go for one of the old guys now.

If we decide to stay on the course of making the playoffs, I would take Allen to come off the bench.

It sounds like Ainge is definitely willing to go "win now" mode. Not to say they wouldn't take some young talent, but i dont think they want Thabeets. I think martin may appeal to them, but not sure about scola. Possibly if he regains his old form. I think he really wants guys who can give him 4 years + and not the kidds of the NBA, but he may have waited a year or two too long to get those offers.

This is the quote i wrote about earlier:

Celtics vice president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said [Wednesday] he would consider a major move involving the Big Three if it would help foster the team’s transition to the next era. The Celtics began the season with eight losses in their first 12 games and there has been increasing speculation Ainge would blow up the team’s veteran core of Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, and Paul Pierce if the team were not competitive this season. Ainge said he would consider trades if they would net younger talent. He has maintained he does not want the franchise to go through a 10-year span of insignificance as it did following the departures of the previous Big Three of Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, and Robert Parish, who remained with the team past their primes.

“First of all it’s a different era,” Ainge said. “I sat with Red (Auerbach) during a Christmas party (in the 1990s). Red was talking to Larry, Kevin, and myself and there was a lot of trade discussion at the time and Red actually shared some of the trade discussions. And I told Red what are you doing? Why are you waiting? “He had a chance to trade Larry (to Indiana) for Chuck Person and Herb Williams and (Steve) Stipanovich and he had a chance to trade Kevin (to Dallas) for Detlef Schrempf and Sam Perkins. I was like are you kidding? I mean I feel that way now. If I were presented with those kind of deals for our aging veterans, it’s a done deal to continue the success … After those guys retired, the Celtics had a long drought,” he said. “But those (types of fruitful trades) aren’t presenting themselves. In today’s day and age with 30 teams in the NBA, 15 teams know they have no chance of winning a championship. They are building with young players. It’s a different era that we live in. It’s easy to say conceptually but you have to always weigh what are real opportunities.”

I would like to see Ray Allen go to Indiana. That seems like a perfect fit, to me.

Pierce is the only one I wouldn't mind bringing to Houston.

How in the hell would this even work? KG and Allen are worth 31 mil, while Lopez and Brooks are worth 4 mil.

The Nets are not getting rid of MarShon Brooks. They would never offer a potential all star for a washed-up(although still effective) Ray Allen, Pierce, or Garnett.

We'd be trading all those players for essentially expiring contracts. I'd want helluva lot more than KG and Ray Allen for that trade scenario.

If the Celts are really in "win now" mode, then I can't think of an easier pickup for them at a more needed spot than Okafor. I'd think they could get Okafor easily for expiring deals, either Jermaine or Wallace's contract plus a couple of those other minor bit part players expiring deals, Wilcox and Pavlovic.

Bass
Pietrus

Boston's got a hole in the middle since they traded Perkins. Okafor would fill it quite adequately.
