    1. There's very little chance DH will away as a FA. If he won't stay long term then Orlando will trade him.
    2. You can't sign someone if it means you'll go over the salary cap. If you only 4M capspace left, you can't sign someone to 20M a year.
    3. Why the hell would you want Amare and his uninsured 100+M contract for the next 4 years? Otis Smith is that you?

The Knicks go on a 4-game road trip with Bobcats, Cavaliers, Heat, and Rockets. You would think that the losing streak ends in Charlotte. Right?

The Knicks lose backup forward Josh Harrelson for 1/3 of the season. Stoudemire may have to play more minutes or they may have to play their 3rd string PF, whoever that is.

Carmelo Anthony is talking to the medical staff about taking some games off, due to a sore left wrist and right ankle. If he takes off against the Bobcats, Stoudemire's performance might actually be better with more shots. The Knicks might actually win.

Bima nailed it, Knicks are so screwed, they can't win and can't rebuild cause they gave away all their draft picks

They lost to the Bobcats at home already. Anything is possible. What's even sadder about their 6-10 record is that they've had a cupcake schedule AT HOME!

If they get so bad that their puck is top 5 we lose it.

Doesn't matter, the ping pong balls could decide !!

When we got Yao we were ranked 6th....

best case scenario would be for NY to get 6-10ish pick in this years draft and for us to be 5-8 recordwise in the west for playoffs.

    best of both worlds.

what is the best way for us to sabotage the knicks this year?

I hope the Knicks get the 8th seed and end up giving us the 15th pick overall.

I don't trust Stern, I can see the ping pong ballc conviently giving the Knicks a high enough pick for them to keep it and draft or trade for a quality point guard.

I understand, but the East is so bad it just won't matter. In no particular order

    1. Philly
    2. Chicago
    3. Indiana
    4. Orlando
    5. Miami
    6. ATL

are the 6 teams ahead of them. Let's assume Boston stops sucking and that ATL doesn't collapse with Horford gone. For our pick to be worth anything, we're relying on one of Cleveland, Milwaukee, New Jersey, or Toronto to step up and finish with a better record than the Knicks. However much they suck, I can't any of those teams beating out a squad containing Melo, Stoudemire, and Chandler.

Cavs might make it in, although I can see them missing on purpose to get a high pick, and they're a shallow team that's one injury away from falling apart.

The only way New Jersey gets in is if Howard gets traded there, but of course if Howard gets traded then Orlando doesn't make it.

Only way they don't get in is if New Jersey can get a quality player from the West, and that's still assuming Boston gets in.

The Knicks would have to be really, really bad to miss the playoffs in the East.

If Stern was rigging the lottery for the Knicks, the Rockets wouldn't be stuck with Jordan Hill and the Nuggets wouldn't have Gallinari.

Most of their lottery picks are in that sweet spot for the Rockets, just outside the top 5. They have been picking in the 6th-9th range.

    Knicks lotto history.

    2010 6th Gallinari
    2009 8th Jordan Hill
    2006-08 no lottery picks
    2005 8th Channing Frye
    2003 9th Michael Sweetney

Yes, but the Knicks didn't have two big name players disappointing their fan base.

Whether they have 2 stars are not, the conspiracy theory that Stern is going to give the Knicks a top 3 pick is still not valid.

I have the perfect thread for you here. The threadstarter has the same conspiracy idea.

I would MUCH rather have the Knicks slotted for the #7-9 pick heading into the lottery (even though they'd have a shot at a top-3 pick) than hope they're good enough to sneak into the playoffs land us the #15 pick.

I'll take my chances that they don't get a top-3 pick. Worst case scenario, they land a top pick, perform well next season, and we get the #23 pick from them in 2013.

The far likelier scenario in that situation, however, would be the Rockets getting that #7-9 pick.

Frankly, it's silly not to want that.

    To put it in perspective:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NBA_Draft_Lottery

If the Knicks have the 9th worst record in the league, they have a 6.1% chance of getting a top 5 pick (by winning the lotto on a top 3 pick).

If the Knicks have the 7th worst record in the league, they have a 15% chance of scoring a top 5 pick.

If the Knicks have the 6th worst record in the league, they have a 21.4% chance of getting a top 5 pick.

If the Knicks have the 5th worst record in the league, they have a 55.3% chance of scoring a top 5 pick.

If the Knicks finished with the worst or 2nd worst record in the league, they have an 100% chance of getting a top 5 pick.

So, the Knicks would have to REALLY TRY HARD at tanking in order to guarantee themselves a good chance at delaying the conveyance of that pick.
