LOL what are you talking about? We started last year 0-5! In fact, before DM intervened and traded Brooks away so Adelman couldn't play him anymore we were like 5 games under 0.500 before the trade deadline.
1. The Rockets were up by 3 with 9 secs left. Dalembert is not a perimeter defender and had no business being out on the floor. 2. You're saying that Chandler Parsons wasn't even on the floor when he was clearly guarding the guy that took the last shot. So, in actuality, the Rockets best perimeter defender was actually defending the last shot. Sounds like good coaching to me.
I think the jury is still out on McHale and he is still making some mistakes here and there, but DD's assertions against him that keep getting proven wrong in this thread are making the dude look like a genius. lol
It's way too early for a thread like this. I didn't want a coaching change, and still wish Alexander and Morey had kept Adelman, who wanted to stay on, but with such a bizarre beginning of a shortened season, this isn't the time to pass judgement on the new coach. If we had a terrible record, I'd probably be making some noise, as I did up until the season started, but now is the time to watch the games and see how things play out. Crucify McHale, Morey, and Alexander later if things play out badly. There's lots of time for that, one way or another.
Cough..Cough...DD... Did we win the game tonight (last night...http://www.nba.com/tvc/index.html?gamecode=20120121/SASHOU&brand=HOU) .. Rox 105 spurs 102...Right??? You say he did not give up a foul we had to give.... did we really need to? We still ended the game with a 20 second timeout and did not go into the penalty by giving up that foul that we had in our back-pockets to give if needed and won the game!! And Popovich used his last timeout before inbounding the ball to draw up all the spurs plays and who should have the ball..etc..etc..etc. And we did not foul them..hahaha. Geeezzz .... dude.... DD... stop hating on the coach so much after a win. OK I think I made my point... no need to grind it in... DD will have better days and i will have more friends than I did before this post and DD will still be one of then.. I think... zzpot..
I think it wasn't a strategic mistakes to play Martin in the last minute... Both for free throw and defense... I'm not a fan of Martin, but I'm impressed with his improve in defensive intensity and awareness in the last couple of games... I don't know if you were watching Spurs seed or busy chatting in the forum, but if you watched Rockets seed you could clearly hear McHale said "we have a foul to give." McHale has made some strategic mistakes, but those are much more advanced... And it takes time for a new coach to correct...
I'm back and forth on the McHale hire. I think the players needed a coach who actually holds them accountable but with the turbulence surrounding the organization after Stern effed us, the timing didn't work. I will hold judgement until we play another dozen games at least. I will say the Adelman was sorely overrated. He was not much of a game manager or in-game strategist. At least McHale isn't afraid to mix things up or sit a guy when he is stinking it up. I know McHale wouldn't keep starting Aaron Brooks while he killed team chemistry and lost game after game.
I have no idea if he is a good coach or not. I have a difficult time judging his performance objectively because of my continued dislike of McHale from his days as a Celtic. McHale played a big role in defeating the Rockets in two NBA finals, and he always seemed like a whiny punk as a player, so I really don't like the guy very much.
I think mid-Feb is a better time to grade McHale, when our schedule is packed with teams which are fighting a playoff spot with us... Personally I definitely weight those game much more...
In this game, regardless of what armchair coaches think should or shouldn't have been done, McHale's late game moves worked out. Had he done what some of the posters wanted, perhaps things wouldn't have worked out the same way. We'll never know. To criticize a coach for late game moves or non-moves, when they held on to win that game, seems a bit ridiculous.
I still believe hiring McHale was a mistake. Heck, letting go of Rick was the first mistake, hiring KMac just compounded it.
It's too early to give McHale credit, but it's also too early to crucify him. I remember when Adelman joined us, he made moves that I didn't agree with, but that's why we need coaches. If Coaches always did things our way all the time, then why hire one at all.
I just don't like his substitutions, he is running some of our guys into the ground - Lowry etc. Don't like his lack of system on offense - and don't like his late game situational management. Not a fan of him at this point, but results are all that matters and the team is 9-7, so will give him a lot more rope. DD
I think firing Adelman was a mistake, but that doesn't mean I think hiring McHale was a mistake. I think the title of the thread is misleading. The board argued more about firing Adelman than we did hiring McHale. And certainly, most people became more accepting as we hired the assistant staff. I am disappointed in the McHale/Simpson defense so far, but with the emergence of Parsons, the return of Lee and Dalembert becoming the starter, this is improving. Plus, PPatt can make a huge difference, too.
Let`s not forget that this is pretty much the same team that was the hottest team last year during the second half of the season, plus a legitimate center to go with them. McHale has done good enough to help the team win, but i`m still not an all out McHale supporter. but as long as the Rockets keep winning, I won`t be calling for his head to roll.
I came into the season as neutral on McHale as a coach, but a great fan of him as a player. Its early, but my early feelings are not postitive. The offense is nowhere as efficient as under Rick plus we now have a strong center presence. With a shot blocker in there the defense looks good at times. There have been situational mistakes. He is not a top level coach IMO, but may prove to be adequate for the Rockets at this stage of development.
still way to early. side note -Hill still looks the same to me. -no T-Will or Thabeet -Scola, Budinger, and Martin are off to a slow start -Parsons would not be starting with RA as a coach IMO (just more or of the same with Budinger - see ShaneB) all and all it is a wash for now because is just still way to early to tell.
