A thin bench just got thinner with Harrellson out six week with fractured wrist. Lot of long faces outside Knicks training room.

Just heard that Josh Harrellson will be out 6 weeks with broken wrist. He was a key player off the bench. Not good for NY. Who plays backup C now?

    How about this trade:

    Houston Trades:
    - Luis Scola
    - Hasheem Thabeet
    - Jordan Hill
    - Jonny Flynn
    - New York's 2012 1st Rnd Pick

    New York Trades:
    - Amare Stoudemire

    Houston Roster:
    P.G. - Kyle Lowry (6-0) / Goran Dragic (6-3)
    S.G. - Kevin Martin (6-7) / Courtney Lee (6-5)
    S.F. - Chandler Parsons (6-10) / Marcus Morris (6-9)
    P.F. - Amare Stoudemire (6-10) / Patrick Patterson (6-9)
    ..C. - Sam Dalembert (6-11)

    Now that team can compete!!

LOL!!! Really?? I just got rid of a bunch of crap off of our roster! This was essentially Scola for Stoudemire. The only other thing that has any value in this trade is the 2012 pick but that's assuming New York just completely tanks. If not, that pick will be 14+ and more than likely around 18 or so. You don't think Scola for Stoudemire is a good deal?

Really? You too? Before New York gutted its team last year and brought in that chucker Carmelo, Amare was one of the top scorers in the league (as usual) and was having one of his best seasons on record and in addition was averaging about 2 blocks a game. Amare is stuck on a crappy team with no talent around him other than Carmelo and he's just sucking the life out of the team. Put Amare on this team with Lowry, Martin, Dalembert, Parsons, Lee, etc. and we will be contenders. . . immediately!

this is exactly the short sightedness that can ruin flexibility going forward.

amare is a superior player to scola, no doubt. in the right settings (focal point of offense and next to a real pg and a center that plays good defense) he can be a 1st option offensively on a good team. the rox actually talent/skillwise are a pretty good fit for him.

    However!
he makes $18+ mil this year and is tied for $84 MILLION dollars over the next 4 years. he is a 29 year old 9 year veteran that has a pretty significant injury history and multiple surgeries. did i mention that his contract is non-insured?

having a guy that makes that kind of money for that long is exactly the future killing decision that a team can make.

you only reserve that for a top 10-12 player. otherwise you get stuck in mediocrity with no cap space for future moves.

Okay. I see y'alls points. Forgot about the microfracture surgery. However, he has been playing exceptionally well regardless. I agree that you don't want an overpaid, injury prone star (McGrady, Yao) sucking up the cap room but with his perfomance the last 2 years I think he is worth the investment. That may be short sighted on my part but if Howard walks and it looks like Orlando may now be willing to allow that to happen from the most recent news, we are strong candidates for him with Lowry, Martin, Stoudemire, etc. not with Scola.

    Just something to think about.

    Well put.

Bringing Stoudamire in would be like going back in time 3 years with all we know now and telling ourselves to go ahead and base the team around Yao Ming.

Not to mention McHale is known as a big man's coach. I'd say we would be in the top 3 contenders for his services with plenty of money available as we have an option on picking up Dalembert's contract next year and all of the 09ers would probably be off of the books.

Intrigued by the premise... but dont think Id want us to be on the hook for amare's contract - given his injuries. Plus he's a real douche... imo

I agree with you. Amare is still a good player and would do great with Kyle Lowry. Scola is declining and amare is younger. I don't see anything wrong with the deal, I just don't see why new York would do it. Lol

Since this is all hypothetical anyway, let's just propose these hypothetical situation occur:

    1. Rockets make the trade above that I posted:

Rockets ship out 4 players valued at $19,989,993
Knicks ship out 1 player (Stoudemire) valued at $18,217,705

    2. Orlando lets Howard walk next year causing the max contract he can get to be worth 4 years $80.5 million.

    3. Rockets do not pick up the 2012 options on the remaining 09ers left on the roster (Williams and Budinger) as well as Dalembert which opens up $10,786,009.

Rockets now have a total payroll for the 2012-2013 season of $56,205,873 with the following players on the roster

    P.G. - Lowry
    S.G. - Martin / Lee
    S.F. - Parsons / Morris
    P.F. - Stoudemire / Patterson
    ..C. - ????

My questions to y'all are these:

    1. Is this team attractive to Dwight Howard?
    2. Can/Should Rockets be willing to go deep into the Luxury tax to pay Howard to come to Houston?

Well, if the Rockets have a payroll of 56 million, then they would not be able to exceed the salary cap, much less the luxury tax line, in order to sign Howard as a free agent -- they would have to do a sign and trade.

The most encouraging thing I find from the Knicks playing so badly thus far is that they have sucked even though their stars have been healthy and even though their schedule is one of the easiest in the league so far.

If/when one of these three guys gets injured and when they hit the harder part of their schedule this team will then see further adversity. And, Chandler not withstanding, Melo and Amare are not the type of guys to be able to handle adversity very well.

Honestly, as bad as the east is, I think it is more likely this team implodes before the end of the year then that they improve. 8th seed in the east is still my prediction (which would give us the 15th pick), but I now think a top 10 pick is more likely than a pick in the 20's.
