There's no way I take McGee right now. One of the biggest problems facing him is that he's bought into his own hype. Whenever you see him playing on the court, its clear that he's overreaching in order to get the 'big play'- be it a big block or a highlight worthy dunk. In my opinion, that's why Flip had to sit him- it wasnt an anecdotal response to a knucklehead play, but a response to what has become habitual. Judging from his mom's comments, its clear that she's bought into his hype as well. Dwight Howard and Andrew Bynum vs. Javale McGee? seriously? They arent in the same league. He views his peak in this league as a 20+ ppg player with 10 boards and a block or two. What he should aim to be is a 8-12ppg player with 12+ boards and a few blocks. His offensive skillset is limited, and he should look at the example of D'andre Jordan; Jordan's contribution to the Clippers is primarily on the defensive end and rebounding with a few highlight dunks here and there. He focuses on his strengths, and as a result got a $40 million over 4 years, even though he's only averaging 8 ppg. Hopefully he learns that lesson, but based on how things have been going this season, I doubt it.
I don't disagree with most of what she said there... just think she's giving her son a bit too much credit. But she's probably right about his potential and about not publicly criticizing your players.
Damn... Didn't think it was possible, but Pamela McGee is looking pretty damn good these days. For a woman who would break me, that is.
I think the Rockets could listen to her in regards to some of their young players too. We failed with Eddie Griffin and still have not managed to bring in coaches to help our younger talented players figure it out. DD
LOL, he's basically already doing that. If he played more minutes he'd average about 12 boards and he already averages 3 blocks and 12 points a game. Why shouldn't he try to improve his game? Andrew Bynum was nothing when the Lakers drafted him. He had even less talent than McGee. He also had the same positives: length, hands, and athleticism. The organization is doing themselves a disservice by not trying to get the most out of this freak athlete. That's why the rockets were trying their hardest with Thabeet. These huge athletes don't come around as often as you may think. You gotta get the most you can get out of them.
Looks aside, she sounds like a bit of a knuckle-head her self. Now I know where he got it from. He got it from his momma.
I still can't understand why people react so negatively to "that dunk". A center that runs down the court first. Yeah he is showboating, but then he did get that 2 points right? So if you are losing and you are in a fast break, you should just lay it in?
I was at that game. He didn't run back first. He was all alone because he didn't get back on defense. The Rockets turned the ball over and he was cherry picking.
it's called respect for the game. being a successful player in the nba is all about making that transition to being a professional. you have to put in the work, makes sacrifices, and have the right attitude. juding by mcgee's body and lack of significant improvement between offseasons, he doesn't do these things. add to the fact that he just doesn't have enough respect for the game means he's still not a pro.
As I said, people overreact. I would trade anyone but lowry for mcgee. The rockets don't have anyone with his upside. Not only that, he's already producing despite his short comings.
Why cant you just make a normal play? Did you see the two dunks he missed were he tried to jump from the FT line and missed both? He sure didnt get the points on those occasions. And he still hasnt learnt from his mistakes.
To white people it's called being a knucklehead, But to us black people "We dont know what the **** yall talking bout" Lmao!
Its just about professionalism, guys like John wall might think its coool to run around dancing, but some of the old school guys, Ray Allen, MJ they will kind of schoff at it. You can do something crazy if your team is up and your team is a winner, but when you are down like that and on a losing streak, that is now what you do to 'inspire' your team. You get to practice early, work your but off, stay afterwards, that is how you inspire your team on a losing streak. Thats what him and his mother don't get
On top of that, you if they didn't hire a mentor, hold your damn self accountable and go work with Olajuwon, etc. In the end of the day, you are in charge of yourself, crying about other teams hiring mentors but you didn't get one is no excuse. This whole team is just pathetic. They STILL have more raw talent and potential than us. a 7footer that young adn athletic is young, I'd take him, but I doubt wizards would trade a rare commodity like that and just hope he matures. Blatche and young seem like the guys they are willing to trade.
