Diminish what they did? You take this waaaaay too seriously. Stop thinking so much. Fans at a game are there to have fun and rubbing it in the faces of opposing players is part of it. Look, I love it when KU loses at home, almost as much as Duke. I despise the Rock Chalk Jayhawk K UUUUUU chant. I'm extremely disappointed Baylor laid such a big egg. But they deserved the serenade. They need to return the favor in Waco and call it even.
No, not for having an opinion. But if you really believe "fans are diminishing what their team did", yes. Much too seriously.
I'm beginning to agree with this. Unless he adds a significant amount of muscle, he's just too frail. The first time I thought he might not be capable of playing at the highest level was when Sidney from MSST straight abused him early. It was easy getting him into foul trouble, but it was obvious Perry is nowhere near capable of handling that strength in the post. Still hoping he proves otherwise down the line, but he doesn't seem to be any closer to overcoming the same knocks on him we've seen since high school. With Miller, I don't know that he's limited physically by the injury at this point. He could stand to gain a few pounds, but it still seems to be a confidence thing. If he can work up the nerve to drive more often his game will take off. Would love to see him back next year with Austin and a pure PG like Rose.
Being outrebounded again is one thing. Being outrebounded again by a team that plays 4 guards on the court is a damn joke. The Bears must average an extra 2-3 inches at almost every position.
Great game. Difference, to me, was that Mizzou had a lot more poise from its guards when things were on the line (15 minute mark of second half down to 3). Pierre Jackson had a strong game statistically, but a lot of those points/assists came in the final three minutes, when the game was all but over and MU just wanted the clock to run. When the game was truly decided, Jackson didn't command the offense and the Bears had a handful of turnovers before even getting a shot off. Baylor just didn't seem ready for the intensity of man defense that MU guards put on them. On the other side, Phil Pressey repeatedly broke down BU on dribble penetration and made things happen. I think Mizzou is the favorite in next month's Columbia rematch, but far from a done deal. Baylor did a lot of things right, shooting 57% and 44% from three. PJIII was so-so, but that had a lot to do with Miller being so aggressive. I think the biggest thing the Bears need is for Jackson to establish himself as a strong leader and keep them composed when the defensive intensity rises. Didn't happen today, despite his numbers.
This. I hope his ankle is severely bothering him. Otherwise, I praise his self-awareness in not declaring for the draft cause he would've been a huge bust. Baylor got outplayed big time, but the officiating was just atrocious. I can only imagine the meltdown The Cat would have if he had been on the receiving end of that. As much as they let go, for one team to be in the bonus with 12 minutes left in the half and the other not getting there until 10 minutes later is a joke. But it was a fun day in Waco. Belly full of Big Os and Health Camp while spending quality time with the family. And I ran into sammy!
You clearly weren't in the Mizzou section - we were griping about the officiating a lot, too. Particularly during Baylor's comeback - Dixon took a forearm shiver to the back that sent him out of bounds (with MU up 7) on which the refs swallowed their whistles and gave the ball to Baylor. There was also a foul at the 14-minute mark on a fast break in which Denmon got clobbered on a layup, and somehow he wasn't given free throws (just ball on side). Not that there weren't sketchy calls the other way, but it was far from a one-sided affair. Just a poor crew overall. One thing I did notice - some folks in the Baylor crowd weren't that astute. The call folks went most ape**** about - when Pressey bumped Jackson in the backcourt late in the first half - the officials pretty clearly let it go precisely because Baylor had a 3 on 1 advantage, and they ended up with a layup. Had it been whistled, BU gets the ball on the side. Yeah, I sadly missed out on George's. Took longer than expected getting up there - didn't realize how many small speed-trap towns there were between College Station and Waco - and by the time we pulled up to George's, there was no parking and entrance was overflowing with fans. Ended up doing a hole in the wall Mexican place, instead. Pretty fantastic atmosphere everywhere - at least before the game.
I was peepin for ya man. Very fun atmosphere! Surprisingly we made it back to Katy in exactly 2.5 hours! Now hoping the Rockets don't disappoint me tonight (just starting game).
The Mizzou section might have been griping as much, but all a person has to do it glance at the free throw attempts to see you didn't have reason to.
Looking at free throw attempts alone tells you absolutely nothing about how a basketball game was called. Team A can have 30 free throws, Team B can have 5, and Team A could still have been majorly screwed if they deserved more. Some teams are just more aggressive than others. Not to mention that of MU's 31 free throws, 12 (roughly 40 percent) came in the final 54 seconds when Baylor was fouling on purpose because of close/late deficit. Context, my friend. Not that I'm saying that analogy applies today, because it doesn't. But looking at attempts is way, way too simple of a metric to judge officiating. Today's crew had sketchy calls/no-calls that went both ways.
I don't feel like BU lost that game because of officiating. They lost it because they have a ton of talent in the frontcourt that our recruiter/coach has no idea how to use effectively....and because they seem to play with very little urgency and passion. Soft like Charmin.
