Yep, no doubt others do it too, but Joe Dumars has the cache of having been a great player and champion in the league, which buys him a lot more respectability with the players.

if you're not a superstar, you're an asset.

Sounds like a trade with Detroit is coming soon.

Morey's been spending time on the phone trying to convince Dumars to trade Tayshaun, and he's got Dumars talking like him.

"Joe... He's an Asset for you. Don't let him walk this summer. I'll let you cash that asset in for two young, aspiring assets in TWill and Budinger."

A superstar is the biggest of assets.

Sometimes it sounds like you were an ex NBA player or something.

Unfortunately, most superstars are like boats. They're black holes that you throw money into every year and your two happiest moments are the day you sign them and the day they are finally off the payroll.

Exactly. Every player is an asset.

I think the term "asset" is being blown way out of proportion. People use the term in the business world all the time........even as it relates to people who are extremely valuable to a company. This talk that we should not use it as it relates to NBA players is dumb.

The problem with the "asset" jargon here in Houston is that there a few of us who feel that assets have been acquired with little to no concept towards how those assets fit together to build a team. That assets are being acquired in trades where more consideration is placed on how they'll be moved along ultimately than how they fit in any sort of team concept.

I think you hit the nail on the head with this post. One very valid criticism I have with DM and his staff's MO is they get talent without considering the fit, as they have said over and over again "Its a good problem to have".

Sometimes it works wonders, we had Rafer Alston, Francis, John lucas 3rd and we still got Aaron Brooks. Sometimes that whole asset thing gets blown out of proportion, Melo would have been a HORRIBLE fit on a team with no consistent 3 pt threat but DM wanted to gut the team for a Melo rental anyway.

Once it gets to a point in which the team is contending for a Championship I am sure the "fit together to build a team" jargon will be of high importance. As of right now Morey's ultimate goal is to get superior talent. I think he has done a great job and continues to show that he can attain quality talent late in the draft, trades, and Free Agency.

The thing is... the Rockets players seems to have fit better than that of other teams, some of whome presumably consider "fit" more than the Rockets do.

The biggest need on this team was a post presence and Morey's plan was to upgrade our front line from smallest to biggest in the NBA.

Only on Clutchfans is a person being called an asset a negative word.

If you get dubbed as an asset to the organization you work for, it is generally a good thing.

In addition, when we had a backlog at 4 and no 2 he traded our 4 for an elite scoring 2.

This, and the Pau trade are easily the 2 biggest trades he's made and they've both been "fit-based".
