Looking around for a basketball camp in the summer for my older boy who will be 12. Any suggestions or experience to share?
Day camp or weekly? Thomas and I went to Baylor basketball camp for seven years straight and they are all up there as far as childhood memories go. Shoot me an e-mail and I'll ask Sean if he recommends any. I know he works at the Rice camps during the summer.
some friends/coworkers who used to play under Coach Huseman in Kingwood and had some AA experience in college opened up a camp aimed for youngsters at Pin Oak middle school in Bellaire and had a successful first summer. http://bellairebasketballcamp.com/Home.html if you are interested I can get you more info...
The Clear Lake Recreation Center usually does several day basketball camps during the summer months, in addition to some youth summer leagues. May want to give them a call.
depends on if you want to send him somewhere for a cool experience. Duke's camp was cool. I was just neat to meet coach K and actually play in that arena.
Matt Bullard hosts a camp for kids in The Woodlands every summer. Very nice coaches help run and teach it. http://www.mattbullard.net/camp.html I'm less familiar with this one, but Aloida sports academy has some competitive camps in Tomball and The Woodlands. http://www.alodia-basketball-training.com/
We can teach him bad fundamentals at the pick up games. Moving screens, taking an extra third step if necessary. We also do our camps at pin oak middle school.
My 13 year old daughter (McCullough Jr High A team... go Lady Highlanders!) has gone to the Texas A&M campo the last two summers and has really enjoyed it. Not only getting coached by Coach Blair, some of his staff, and other good coaches, but meeting some of the Lady Aggies.
Alodia is good. So is CUTtheNETS, also in The Woodlands. Skills and fundamental training most of the year, and they also have AAU teams as well. Lots of the kids that end up in The Woodlands go through CTN. One more good basketball skills traing group... ISTI, led by Ben Simmons. They have sessions on Sundays at John Cooper School (and other locations around the city.
Cool. J knows Sean...he'd like that. Good idea. Yeah, I was thinking of a day camp. Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
I assuming that aaron brooks camp wont be held in houston anymore as well? Leaning toward the Matt Bullard one but the woodlands are pretty far.
Don't know if HBU does camps anymore but I went to one as a kid when Gerald Myers was the head coach there. He later was the head basketball coach and later the AD at his alma mater Texas Tech when they hired Bobby Knight. E.C. Coleman was the star player at HBU at the time and, I think, played briefly for the Rockets before dying young-- drowning as I recall.
yes sir! exactly what I was looking for http://www.roncottrellsbasketballcamps.com/basketball-camp.cfm appears to be a good one...thanks!
Don Eddy basketball not sure if that's still around went there about 18 years ago......good fun camp they also mix in a little religion if that's your cup of tea
I went there a long time ago also; literally COULD NOT MISS a shot for like a month afterwards. Of course I stopped practicing the rest of the summer and forgot the technique.
