It is most likely that Deron Williams WILL help OUR chances for landing another star player. As you see the New Jersey Nets have a good chance of landing Dwight if Dwight is not traded to Lakers. But, I doubt players have a lot of control in wanting to go where they want to go unless they are a free agent.

    Yep. http://www.netsdaily.com/2011/12/14/2636098/howard-trade-talks-end

though i think you underestimate the longevity of these guys career.

That said, it is a better deal for the Magic at the trade deadline, despite Lopez's injury, because they will at least be guaranteed of 1 high lotto pick - this years.

The corollary question is what The Tall Russian will find sexy enough to sell to a NY market that includes Amare/Melo/Chandler???

And can any magnitudinous deal be completed before Howard's post-ASG week-end trade is effected? (At the end of the the day it will take a 3-way.)

One thing people aren't considering is that Kyle Lowry isn't on a lifetime contract. He is 2 years younger than Williams, but guess what? His contract expires in two years. He is a great value now but if he continues his excellent play he will be looking at a big pay day in the future. And who knows, we may be looking at the same situation Utah was looking at with Williams last year.

This is not saying OH GOD WE MUST TRADE LOWRY BEFORE HE HITS FREE AGENCY! This is just a little more perspective on the argument of value. When arguing for keeping Lowry at a "fraction of the cost" we must realize that the window for that value is only 2 years, after which... we enter the great unknown.

This is random, but Parsons would be a great next to two stars. His shots will eventually fall. I just hope Rockets wouldn't include him and miss out on 4 years of mismatches, and great production from a player on a rookie contract.

I think Lowry is sell-able in his own way. He has an east coast vibe, is tough nosed, hard working, little bull dog. That sells anywhere, and given the Nets are more Brooklyn than Manhattan, that's a fit.

That said, Knicks fans will turn on Amare/Melo/Chandler if they don't win, too. Marbury was one of theirs as well, and it's not like he wasn't turned on. Point being, Lowry and a bunch of nobodies isn't going to sell anymore than Williams and a bunch of nobodies.

The Tall Russian needs to put together a competitive squad. His problem is he sold the farm for a chance at a Williams + Howard combo, which if he doesn't get might turn into nothing.

Lowry, Scola plus young players/draft picks isn't what he sent out to get Williams... BUT he is where he is, and has to deal with that. If he doesn't get Howard, and Williams makes it well known he won't pick up his player option or resign, then the Nets should be motivated to get something in return.

Does NJ have 5 1st rounders to trade away after the Williams trade? Also they can't trade back to back picks anyways. That, added by the fact that Orlando is playing so well will entice the Magic, unless they get an unbelievable offer (Bynum + Gasol), to keep Dwight.

To those comparing Lowry to Dwill forget the exceptional scorer Dwill can be. He averaged 21 points, 9.7 assists while shooting 46 % one year. I looove Lowry but I just can't see him the scorer Dwill is.

I find it hard to believe that not many things bother you if a little insult does. I'm sorry I called you an idiot, it was just a bad choice of words. This was the first time I've been neg repped. I really don't think that was necessary, I've seen FAR worse.

cp3 actually had better team mates ala landry, and someone who can play defense in okafor and jerret jack is so much better than farmar

Great article. Knew we were very very close last year.

Is Lowry "good enough" to lure superstars to Houston like Williams could? Maybe if the Lowry of this season (stat wise) was the norm for the last few years.

Right or wrong, one of the deciding factors for players is based on perception. The current crop of superstars will look to their peers who have been proforming at an elite level as long as they have when they make their decision on where they want to go. Is Lowry perceived as being as good as or better than Williams now? No and that is what players are looking at. Now...

You know what also attracts superstars?

    Cap room.

If this argument was trading for a top tier superstar then that's one thing, but gutting the whole team for a marginal superstar to begin with, with what appears to be a dubious chance at adding in a second one, seems like a much riskier strategy.

Trading for Deron WIlliams doesn't really seem similar to trading for Tracy McGrady. It's a lot more like trading for Steve Francis (not that their games are similar)

Yep, DWill is struggling this year, but he has a history of being the 2nd best PG in the league behind CP3.

Lowry has been great, but he will always be undersized, he will always be below par laterally on defense and DWill is an upgrade in every way.

If you can get him, you do it.

Brooks is impressing. Humphries and Morrow underrated.

What superstars do you see coming available in the next two years? It is hard to project that far in the future, but the only potential star I see as having a distinct chance of leaving their team would be Kevin Love (John Wall, I believe, would be able to leave during the same offseason Lowry's contract would have to be renewed)

If Williams helps set you up for DHoward? Heck yes you do. If not then you don't.
