Impossible to narrow it down with so many genres to choose from, so I'll just stick with the stuff I grew up on.

The Police - Zenyatta Mondatta - 5 (gotta get them on this list)
    Rush - Moving Pictures - 4
    U2 - The Unforgettable Fire - 3
REM - Fables of the Reconstruction - 2
    Van Halen - Fair Warning - 1

Not sure I see how the tally is working... shouldn't Doolittle be in there somewhere? Also, who can narrow it to three and not feel like you've slighted a favorite?
Anyway, here's my best try... not the albums I think are the best of all time by everyone's standards, necessarily, but they are some of my most favorite albums.

    #1 Frank Zappa - Apostrophe
#2 The Beatles - Abbey Road
    #3 The Pixies - Doolittle
#4 Frank Black - Teenager of the Year
    #5 Yes - Fragile

I could make another one and not include any of these, but this is how I see it at this moment.

Just a reminder, so that I can put these on the list, I included some posters who didn't assign point values to your top 5 picks (or your top pick, in some cases). For your #1 favorite, give it 5 points, then 4 for #2, etc. down to 1 for your 5th favorite among your top 5. Thanks!!

    Revolver - Beatles
Dark Side of the Moon - Floyd
    Zep 2
    Electric Ladyland- Jimi
    Aja- Steely Dan
Live at the Fillmore - Allman Bros.
    Zep 4
    Journeyman - Clapton
    In Step - SRV
    Deguello - ZZ Top
Blow by Blow - Jeff Beck
Let it Bleed - Stones ( I like better than Sticky Fingers or Exile)
    Broken Boy Soldiers - Raconteurs

    Body Slam
Appetite for Destruction - Guns N' Roses
Strait From the Heart - Geogre Strait
Licensed to Ill - Beastie Boys
    Feel So Right - Alabama
    Purpl Rain - Prince

    TimeLordTwo
    Ride the lightning!

    Mylilpony

So, Apostrophe is your favorite CD, Abbey Road is #2, etc.? Or is Fragile your favorite?

The Pixies Doolittle only has 3 points. Someone listed it as their 5th favorite (1 point) and another listed it as their 4th (2 points). I had to cap the list at 5 so that it wouldn't be this ridiculously long list. I figured that individuals can read the whole thread to see posters' individual choices- however, by extending it down to 5, it ensures that every person who posts a top 5 list on here and assigns appropriate points to those will have at least their favorite CD represented on the "list."

    A few observations:

    1. This list is obviously not an end-all, be-all list. On another day, it could very easily change. It basically gives a snapshot of favorites at this point in time.

    2. Good to see a mix of acknowledged classics and some a bit under the radar. Personally, the neck-and-neck of a CD like Dark Side of the Moon against Siamese Dream is great.

    3. Goes to show what leads to the "why wasn't this included?" sentiment you often see in comments on these lists. When you see a poll with individuals voting on their favorites, and they don't happen to vote in Sgt. Pepper, it doesn't mean that the list is crap. It just means that that particular group, at that particular time, as a majority, didn't see it as the best. That puts these types of lists in perspective.

I am literally taking the time to count it by eye. If you see I made a mistake, no problem!! Just let me know.

There was one other poster who voted for Doolittle as their #4 (Sweet Lou 4 2)

You're right- I wouldn't count the Madonna or Abba.

Yeah, that seems to be the confusion. I listed mine in descending order. Apostrophe was my #1 five pointer.

I thought that doing it the other way- lowest score, top ranking- would be even more confusing. Actually, most with the exception of a few did it right- I'll add some of yours to the list (good choice on Zappa, BTW).

Can't believe no one else has included Abbey Road at all.

I included the # (instead of pts) so you'd know what I meant, per your instructions... to no avail. ;)

    But this is correct, right?

    #1 Frank Zappa - Apostrophe- 5 pts.
#2 The Beatles - Abbey Road- 4 pts.
    #3 The Pixies - Doolittle- 3 pts.
#4 Frank Black - Teenager of the Year- 2 pts.
    #5 Yes - Fragile- 1 pt.

I added Zappa as it had 5 points and Doolittle because it is now up to 6 (and for ties, I listed each in alphabetical order). yes, you are the only person who both voted for Abbey Road and assigned a point value to it. two other posters put this on their list but did not assign a point value, so I couldn't count theirs.

I could go top five or ten on any of my favorite artists so in order to do this I'll have to limit it to one per artist (also very tough) and in order to do that with my very favorite artists I'll leave out albums that might otherwise be among my top 5 (like Off the Wall or pretty much anything by Queen).

    1. XO by Elliott Smith (5 points)
    2. Don't Be Scared by Daniel Johnston (4 points)
    3. Blood on the Tracks by Bob Dylan (3 points)
    4. Lola vs. Powerman by The Kinks (2 points)
    5. Songs from a Room by Leonard Cohen (1 point)

Very, very hard choices. Tough leaving out all Velvet Underground (Loaded) and Lou Reed (New York), all Pixies/Frank Black/Black Francis (Doolittle and Bluefinger, respectively), Herman Brood (Ciao Monkey), Frank Zappa (Just Another Band from L.A.), Neil Young (On the Beach), Beach Boys (Pet Sounds), N.W.A., Gil-Scot Heron, KISS, Stevie Wonder, Beatles, The Who, Bowie, Pretenders, Violent Femmes, The dB's, and many, many local bands.

Might as well not have posted anyway since none of my choices will make the list or even come close but I wanted to play.
